Mike Peters, famously recognized as the lead vocalist of The Alarm, has tragically passed away at the age of 66. Battling blood cancer, the musician had to unfortunately cancel his U.S. tour due to his diagnosis. Sadly, the news was shared by the spokeswoman for the charity that Peters and his wife established together.
Originally from Prestatyn, North Wales, Peters embarked on a musical journey driven by his personal passions. Known for his contributions, this musician was a part of tours alongside U2 and Status Quo. He frequently collaborated with music legends like Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen.
36 years ago, the band’s lead singer was initially diagnosed with cancer. Since then, he has gone through numerous treatments and chemotherapy for chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Recently, only a year ago, he had to postpone his U.S. tour, just five days before the performance, due to a recurring lump in his throat.
According to the doctor’s assessment, Peter was diagnosed with Richter’s Syndrome, which represents a particularly aggressive transformation of his Lymphoma.
In the early ’80s, he gained notoriety as The Alarm’s frontman, and as his popularity grew, Peters chose to channel his success towards charitable endeavors. Together with his spouse, they established a cancer patient charity and a stem-cell donation program.
In an interview with the PA news agency last year, the singer expressed his heartfelt appreciation towards his numerous fans for their unwavering support. The lead vocalist of The Alarm explained, “Given my impulse to protect both my life and health, I determined that it was possible for me to perform some shows in Britain during the summer.
He explained that he wouldn’t be able to perform with the band, crew, tour buses, and all the accompanying risks. However, he could still perform solo on stage with a minimal support team, ensuring his health was not compromised by any viruses or unfavorable conditions.
Mike Peters is survived by his wife and two sons.
