92-year-old British actor Michael McStay, known for roles in shows like Doctor Who and No Hiding Place, has sadly passed away.
He passed away peacefully during sleep on May 18, after having shared a pleasant lunch with his children. This information was made public by a family spokesperson on May 20, according to the Daily Mail report.
The obituary described McStay as a widely recognized actor, a prosperous author, and a devoted family man. His acquaintances considered it an honor to have been part of his life and professional journey.
McStay gained widespread recognition across the country due to his extended role as Sergeant Perryman in ITV’s crime television series No Hiding Place, appearing over 80 times. Additionally, he made a brief yet memorable appearance as Derek Moberley in two episodes of Doctor Who on BBC, a show that held a special place in his heart throughout his life.
In a podcast interview held in May 2024, McStay expressed admiration for the passionate and amiable Doctor Who fan community. He found them welcoming and enthusiastic, an encounter that left a lasting impression on him. Furthermore, he discussed his enduring love for acting, crediting his longevity in the entertainment world to his tenacity and close friendships’ backing.
On an episode of Toby Hadoke’s Time Travels podcast related to Doctor Who, he expressed that the type of fans associated with such a series are more like friends. They wish for your favor and the show’s success, creating a wonderful atmosphere. It’s truly enjoyable being part of this community in a special sense.
McStay’s film credits boast substantial appearances in “Robbery” (1967) and “The Stick Up” (1977). His television work, however, was more diverse than his most recognizable roles, featuring guest-starring roles on shows like “EastEnders”, “The Black Arrow”, “Ted and Alice”, “Park Ranger”, and “Spy at Evening”.
In 2011, he made his final screen appearance on the ITV drama series Coronation Street, portraying the character Alan Hoyle, who took over from John Woodvine in the role.
On May 20th, through a Facebook post, the representative of the deceased actor expressed their deep sorrow, stating, “We regretfully inform you about the passing of Michael McStay, an esteemed actor, gifted writer, and devoted family man. It was a blessing to have known him. Farewell.
