Following a ten-year battle against an autoimmune illness, Lisa Jane Smith sadly passed away on March 8, as reported by The New York Times. A tribute posted on her website described her as a “compassionate and gentle spirit”, further stating that “her intelligence, innovation, strength, and compassion left an indelible mark on the lives of her loved ones, friends, and admirers.
The statement reads, ‘She is fondly remembered for her creative mind, her groundbreaking contributions to the genre of supernatural literature, and her kindness, compassion, and warm-heartedness, not only within the pages of her books but also in her everyday life.’
1958 saw the birth of the author, who spent her early career teaching elementary school until 1989 when she decided to focus full-time on writing.
The four-book series titled “The Vampire Diaries,” published in 1991 and 1992, catapulted her into the limelight of public awareness. It centers on two vampire brothers and their relationship with an orphaned young woman.
The Vampire Diaries gained renewed popularity in 2009 when it was turned into a television series, swiftly earning international recognition. Over the course of eight seasons, it remained on the air.
Besides “The Vampire Diaries,” Smith also penned several popular supernatural series, including “Night World,” “The Secret Circle,” “Dark Visions,” and “The Forbidden Game.” These trilogies gained devoted followings.
