As a lifestyle expert who has had the privilege of observing and learning from many inspiring individuals throughout my career, I must say that Donna Gregory stands out among the crowd. Her courage, resilience, and unwavering dedication to her craft were truly remarkable.
Donna Gregory, a renowned journalist and news anchor based in North Carolina, passed away after bravely battling Stage 4 lung cancer for a prolonged period. According to reports from WWAY 3, who announced the sad news on November 20th, she died surrounded by her family on Tuesday.
Over the course of many years, Gregory has taken on significant positions within the international broadcasting network. Not only did this earn her widespread acclaim abroad, but it also led her to inspire and amplify the voices of emerging journalists through television and other media outlets. In 2019, she temporarily filled in for anchor Randy Aldridge at WWAY 3 while he underwent chemotherapy; however, her contributions eventually led to a permanent position on their team.
According to WWAY 3’s announcement, Donna bravely faced her health challenge with elegance and tenacity. She received both immunotherapy and chemotherapy treatments, all the while serving as a source of encouragement and motivation for others.
This year, she openly shared about her struggle with lung cancer, which was confirmed following a lengthy period of persistent cough, fatigue, shortness of breath, and weight loss. A biopsy eventually revealed her illness. In April, Gregory informed her viewers about her decision to take a break from hosting duties to focus on her treatment.
Gregory’s kids paid an emotional tribute to their mother on Facebook, expressing that she possessed the spirit of a valiant fighter. While many recognized her as a renowned reporter, her children saw her as an intelligent and creative individual who deeply appreciated life. Her warmth and friendliness made everyone feel at ease in her presence, eliminating any sense of being a stranger.
Gregory’s kids posted on Facebook: ‘Many of you may recognize her as ‘Donna Gregory’. Her professional life embodied her love for journalism. She was a respected anchor at WWAY in Wilmington and WRAL in Raleigh, and she held significant positions with NBC News and MSNBC, making a lasting impact on the field. To us, she will always be ‘Mom’.
Donna Gregory is mourned by her loved ones, such as her sons Sam, Callan, Avery, and Everett, along with their spouses (Amanda and Shane), grandchildren Hayes and Coley, and the entire family.
