Who Is in Jean Charles de Menezes Drama? Disney+ Announces Cast for Series

Disney+ has unveiled the cast for its upcoming drama series Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes. The series will focus on the tragic story of de Menezes, a Brazilian electrician who was mistakenly identified as a terrorist and shot by police in London following the 7/7 bombings in 2005.

Edison Alcaide, a fresh face on TV, has been chosen for the part of de Menezes. The show is set to debut in the spring, featuring a renowned ensemble cast along with Edison Alcaide.

In this production, Conleth Hill assumes the character of Sir Ian Blair, a former Metropolitan Police Commissioner involved in a significant event. Emily Mortimer portrays Cressida Dick, who eventually rose to become the head of the Metropolitan Police. Notable actors like Russell Tovey, Max Beesley, Daniel Mays, Laura Aikman, and The Crown’s Alex Jennings are also part of this talented ensemble cast.

As reported by Deadline, writer and producer Jeff Pope stated that we have an accomplished and powerful cast assembled, which will aid us in scrutinizing the series of incidents culminating in the unfortunate shooting of the blameless Jean Charles de Menezes.

The show will delve into the sequence of events that ultimately led to the fatal shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes, a Brazilian electrician, at Stockwell Tube Station. This tragic incident took place two weeks following the 7/7 attacks, as authorities were on the hunt for individuals associated with an unsuccessful bombing attempt.

For almost an hour, De Menezes was pursued, and the monitoring team incorrectly assumed he was a suspect. Tragically, he was fatally shot on a busy subway train, sparking widespread protest and prompting debates about the use of lethal force by police officers.

Jeff Pope stated, “He was merely a daily commutor who was monitored for approximately an hour, yet the surveillance system failed to correctly recognize him, ultimately leading to his fatal shooting on a bustling subway train.” De Menezes’ family, including his parents, are serving as advisors for the production of the series.

This series has been penned by Jeff Pope, a writer renowned for crafting fact-based dramas like “The Reckoning” and “See No Evil: The Moors Murders.” Kwadjo Dajan takes on the role of producer, while Paul Andrew Williams assumes directorial duties. Each of them holds the position of executive producer for this production.

The series is being released around the 20th anniversary of the 7/7 bombings, alongside other documentaries like Channel 4’s Shoot to Kill: Terror on the Tube.
