Who Is AGATHA ALL ALONG’s Rio Vidal? The True Identity of Aubrey Plaza’s Character, Revealed

As a seasoned connoisseur of the supernatural and all things mystical, I find myself utterly captivated by the enigmatic figure that is Rio Vidal from “Agatha All Along”. Now, I’ve seen my fair share of spectral beings, but none quite like this one. This isn’t your typical Grim Reaper type, oh no, this is Agatha’s ex and the original Green Witch, Death herself!

In the seventh episode of “Agatha All Along,” which featured time-jumping, Lilia’s mother shared a grim truth: “Death comes to us all.” However, it was later revealed that Death had been present since the beginning of the series, hidden in plain sight. The coven uncovered Agatha Harkness’ secret about her ex, leaving fans wondering about Rio Vidal, played by Aubrey Plaza in “Agatha All Along.” At last, we discovered the shocking truth: Rio Vidal is none other than Death from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This revelation about Agatha significantly alters the fate of all characters at the end of The Witches’ Road.

As a young girl, Patti LuPone’s character, Lilia, lived her life in a disjointed manner. This existence was unpleasant for her, so she suppressed that part of herself. However, this ability to jump through time resurfaced only when she met William Kaplan. It worsened further when she associated with Agatha. During the series Agatha All Along, Lilia would enter trance-like states and utter what appeared to be nonsensical words. Remarkably, those moments were never remembered by Lilia herself.

Agatha All Along’s character, Rio Vidal, turned out to be the embodiment of Death in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), as many had anticipated.

The role or duty that was briefly mentioned earlier in the season is what Rio, known as the “original Green Witch,” has been assigned: this is why the Ouija board indicated “Death” was present in the room with the witches during the fifth episode of Agatha All Along. It wasn’t a summoning spell that brought Rio to the Road, but rather her coming to retrieve Mrs. Hart’s body after they buried her. This is also why Agatha begged “don’t” from Rio when she thought Teen was dying, as it would have been Rio who took him away, just as she had been tasked with taking Nicholas, Agatha’s son, long ago.

In the series Agatha All Along, it’s revealed that Rio Vidal is actually Death, but this doesn’t automatically make her evil. As Lilia’s mother said, Death affects everyone regardless of their goodness or wickedness. Death appears to be impartial. However, after observing Rio’s actions throughout the show, it seems she may not embody the neutrality typically associated with Death.

Death isn’t romantically linked with the former partner of every coven’s leader. Death doesn’t have a tumultuous past filled with emotional entanglements and betrayals with every suspicious, power-hungry witch. However, it’s clear that Rio has a special connection to Agatha Harkness, as they worked together to free her from imprisonment. Yet, the reason behind this alliance remains unclear. In the series Agatha All Along, what is Death’s intention with Agatha and her coven? Is Rio simply there for the deceased bodies? If that’s the case, there could be less complicated methods to obtain them.

It appears that Death in the MCU’s portrayal may have a different agenda than just causing harm to Agatha, as seen in “Agatha All Along”. Instead of wanting Agatha to suffer or die, it could be that Death feels remorse for taking the child of the person she loved most. Perhaps Death intends to aid Agatha instead. Interestingly, Death showed compassion towards Alice and Lilia by allowing them to achieve their deepest desires before they died on The Road. While Alice learned about her mother’s sacrifice and ended the generational curse, Lilia found a coven and no longer felt lonely.

Perhaps it was destined that they would meet their end, and Rio Vidal ensured they fulfilled their desires before that moment. It seems she’s doing the same for Agatha now. Or perhaps she needs to traverse the Witches’ Road herself in order to make her own wish granted. Even Death may yearn for something of its own.

In the final episode of Agatha All Along, we’ll uncover more insights about Death. Regardless of Rio Vidal’s desires, Agatha should undeniably heed Lilia’s advice and take cover when Death addresses her as a coward. Despite the nature of Rio’s intentions – good, bad, or somewhere in between – we place our trust in Lilia over Death itself.
