Following several months of not speaking out, Blake Lively has at last addressed the legal turmoil linked to her and director Justin Baldoni in an open chat with Seth Meyers on Late Night. She labeled 2024 as one of the toughest periods in her life, characterized by emotional struggles, media scrutiny, and the resilience she discovered through motherhood. The controversy, which emerged shortly after production concluded on It Ends With Us, unveiled significant accusations—and now, Lively is sharing insights into how it impacted her profoundly.
On Thursday, Lively graced Late Night With Seth Meyers and discussed the impact the recent controversy has had on her. “This year has been a rollercoaster ride of the greatest joys and deepest sorrows in my life,” she confided, further stating, “Fear is purposeful – it’s what makes us hesitant.
In a heartfelt address, the actress underscored that numerous women remain quiet about their personal stories, acknowledging that speaking up carries a mix of privilege and obligation. She expressed hope that her openness would inspire others: “I notice many women are reluctant to share, especially now amidst all this turmoil,” she stated, reflecting on raising her four children—James, Inez, Betty, and Olin—in the midst of public scrutiny.
The legal dispute started towards the end of 2024, as Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment and filed a lawsuit based on inappropriate conduct on set. Some of her allegations included showing her explicit content and discussing past issues with porn addiction during production meetings. Eventually, a judge mandated that Baldoni participate in a corrective workshop to address professional boundaries.
In response, attorney Bryan Freedman for Baldoni publicly refuted all accusations, labeling them as completely untrue. He further alleged that Lively had made threats to boycott promotional events and potentially delay the film’s premiere unless specific conditions were fulfilled. Additionally, he suggested that Lively ridiculed Baldoni’s appearance, and used her husband Ryan Reynolds’ and Taylor Swift’s influence to exert control over the situation.
Regardless of the ongoing issues, Blake Lively has drawn strength from her family and the challenges of parenthood. Meanwhile, in public statements, she underscores that staying quiet is no longer an option. In her words, “Even on difficult days, I have to be a happy place for them.” At present, it’s her children—rather than court proceedings—that are her main concern.
