As I delve deeper into Zach Bryan’s captivating journey, I am struck by the profound impact of family and personal experiences on his music. His debut album, DeAnn, is a poignant testament to a relationship that seems to have shaped him profoundly. The songs resonate with intimacy, as if we are eavesdropping on private moments, making us feel like we know her too.
28-year-old Zach Bryan, a renowned country singer, has garnered significant acclaim and cultivated a loyal fanbase through his exceptional contributions in the cutthroat music industry. There’s much interest among fans regarding his family background, particularly after Zach addressed criticism on social media about his upbringing, as reported by Style outlet.
Interested in learning more about Zach Bryan’s family? Look no further! Let me share some insights into the lives of his parents, Dewayne and Annette Bryan.
When did Dewayne and Annette get married?
Back in 1989, I was stationed abroad with the U.S. Navy, but little did I know that my two favorites were tying the knot back home on May 5th! What a day it must have been for them!
Dewayne and Annette welcomed two children: MacKenzie, their daughter, and Zach, born in Okinawa, Japan. After that, the family relocated and brought up both kids in Oklahoma. Their relationship ended when Zach was 12 years old as reported by The New York Times.
As reported by People magazine, following his divorce from Annette, the country singer’s father went on to marry Anna Rogers, who is both a nurse and a clinical research coordinator.
More about Zach’s sister Mackenzie
Mackenzie was born on the 22nd of September, 1994, which makes her older than Zach by two years. She’s known for making people laugh as a comedian. Her father encourages both her and her sibling’s artistic pursuits.
I can’t help but passionately share about her performances on my social media platforms. According to reports, I even went as far as posting a flyer for her 2023 show and expressing my feelings by saying, “The woman who made me a father will bring joy back into your life with her humor sprinkled with spice.” McKenzie officially became Mrs. Morgan Taylor in October 2021.
Just like his parents, Zach also joined the Navy
From what I’ve heard, it seems this Grammy-nominated artist carries on a cherished family custom – just like my beloved uncles, grandfathers, and even great-grandfathers before them, he chose to serve our nation proudly in the Navy!
At the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Naval service. During a conversation with Ship2Shore, he shared insights into his time serving in the Navy, specifically discussing his role as an aviation ordnance technician. This position involved fixing, building, and arming weapons systems.
The singer spent eight years in active service, based in both Washington and Florida, as well as completing assignments in Djibouti and Bahrain. Upon honorable discharge, he embarked on a journey to advance his music career.
Annette passed away in 2016
On August 3, 2016, Annette sadly passed away. When speaking to The New York Times, he fondly described her as “a charming sweetheart from Oklahoma, a popular homecoming queen and cheerleader, nearly a local celebrity in our small town.
Throughout her life, it’s said that she faced battles with alcohol, leading to her ex-husband being given custody of their children following their divorce. However, Zach openly discussed having a strong, enduring relationship with his mom.
Following Annette’s passing, he coped with his grief by composing songs, leading some to believe he was suppressing his emotions. However, in an interview with The New York Times, he confided that the individual to whom he had poured out his feelings was no longer present in his life.
On the second anniversary of her passing, he posted a tribute saying, “In the past two years, there were so many things I wished to share with you. My love for you is greater than my own life and I miss you deeply. Stay watchful, Mom, because I’m carrying on.
Zach releases his first album DeAnn as a tribute to his mother
In a 2019 conversation with YouTube personality Grady Smith, the singer openly admitted that his mom was his “dearest friend on earth,” and her passing deeply affected him. He titled his debut album using her middle name.
The tunes from the album hint at his visits to her home and instances where she had him perform songs specifically for her. She is frequently depicted as emotionally expressive during recordings, with moments of weeping, shouting, and vocal outbursts.
As a devoted supporter, I’ve always felt that she understood me better than anyone else. To express what I might convey if given the chance, I believe some of those sentiments are echoed in the songs penned by DeAnn.
Zach’s family supports his profession
In conversation with Smith, Zach mentioned that songwriting has acted as his form of therapy. He explained that it has helped alleviate his suffering throughout the years, and now it seems to be leading somewhere significant.
At the age of 12, this 28-year-old artist embarked on crafting poetry. Following the receipt of his first guitar as a gift from his grandpa, he transformed his poems into melodies and began composing tunes alongside his companions.
In 2017, the Oklahoma Smokeshow singer gained widespread popularity and then, after leaving the Navy, he recorded his album titled “DeAnn” in 2019.
Dewayne shared with Tulsa World that his son has often exhibited an adventurous spirit, as if he’d leap off a cliff and create wings during the fall. He added, “It can be aggravating at times, but I believe he’s managed to keep this fearless attitude throughout his journey.
Dewayne appeared with his son on stage
Father and son brought the house down as they teamed up with the artist from Something In The Orange during a live performance of Revival on stage.
He is a proud parent, who regularly sees his son perform. While talking about attending his shows, he told News on 6 that he tears up every time and “each is brand new.”
Dewayne confided to the media that he enjoys attending concerts and engaging with others. Additionally, he disclosed his affection for organizing parties and tailgates. When asked about his occupation, he humorously refers to himself as a “proven tailgate enthusiast.
According to Tulsa World reports, he’s also actively involved with a Zach Bryan Fan Group on Facebook. Here, he organizes tailgate events and awards concert tickets, or “Dad Comps,” to his supporters.
Dewayne has majority raised awareness about cancer
Dewayne is known as an inspiring figure who significantly aids people by advocating for cancer awareness. He has even trekked through Oklahoma to promote this cause.
2021 saw him kick off a fundraising journey. His purpose? To collect funds for a special education teacher who had been diagnosed with cancer. In 2023, during his third charity walk, he trekked more than 60 miles from Claremore to Copan, contributing significantly to local charities.
He also read the names of individuals battling cancer or those who have passed away because of that, along the way. His son, also posted about it on his social media, praising his father for the encouraging effort.
Dewayne called the hiking trails “Dad’s Stroll” in memory of his father who unfortunately died from lung cancer. He expressed this sentiment to Fox News, saying, “I want others to realize that there are resources out there for everyone, and we all have the ability to get up and do something active.
