Rumors suggest Captain America (Steve Rogers) and Peggy Carter had a child in the new Avengers: Doomsday movie. But has this happened before in Marvel comics or other media? The answer is complicated. While Captain America remains childless in the main Marvel comic universe (Earth-616), the broader Marvel Multiverse features several versions of Steve Rogers with children—and one of those versions is with Peggy Carter. Here’s a look at all the known children of Steve Rogers, listed in order of when they first appeared.
Steven Rogers Jr. and Nicky Rogers (What If…? #38, 1983)
Back in 1983, a Marvel comic called What If? #38 explored an alternate reality: what if Sharon Carter hadn’t died? In this version of events, she and Steve Rogers got married and had children. Their oldest was Steven Rogers Jr., and the youngest was Nicky Rogers, named after Nick Fury. These kids only appeared in that single issue, which took place in an alternate universe (Earth-8342), but they’re historically the first official children of Steve Rogers in the entire Marvel Multiverse. (Even though Sharon later returned to life in the main comic storyline and they still didn’t have kids, let’s not dwell on that!)
Crusader/Sarah Rogers (What If…? #114, 1998)

The classic Secret Wars story saw Marvel’s heroes taken to the Beyonder’s Battleworld. But imagine if they’d been permanently stranded there? In one version of the vast Marvel Multiverse, Steve Rogers, after years of fighting, found love with the X-Men’s Rogue. They had a daughter, Sarah Rogers, who inherited incredible strength from both parents – from Steve, and originally from Carol Danvers through Rogue. Just like her father, Sarah is also worthy enough to lift the mighty hammer, Mjolnir.
The Rogers Twins (What If? Avengers Disassembled #1, 2007)

In this alternate reality, instead of a relationship with Sharon Carter, Captain America (Steve Rogers) fell in love with Wanda Maximoff, also known as the Scarlet Witch. Fans will recall Wanda once altered reality to create twin sons with Vision. However, in What If? Avengers Disassembled #1, it’s revealed she did so again, this time with Captain America. She crafted a new reality where she and Steve had twin boys, potentially named Billy and Tommy, though their names and any powers they might have had remained a mystery. These weren’t the only children Steve had with an Avenger across the Marvel Multiverse, however.
James Rogers (Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow, 2008)

Many Marvel Cinematic Universe fans hoped Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff would become a couple, but their relationship stayed a close friendship. Interestingly, an animated movie called Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow imagined them having a son, James Rogers, who tragically lost both parents in an attack by Ultron. This young James Rogers—likely named after Bucky Barnes—was secretly raised by Tony Stark, who prepared him to become a hero. He gained his father’s super strength from the Super Soldier Serum and his mother’s skills in stealth, eventually leading a new team of Avengers as a teenager.
Ultimate Red Skull (Ultimate Avengers #1, 2009)

The Captain America of the Ultimate Comics universe wasn’t always a perfect hero – he could be a bit of a difficult person. However, his son’s story was much darker. Born in the 1940s to Steve Rogers and Gail Richards, this child – known early on as “Toddler Richards” – was raised by the government while Captain America was frozen. They turned him into a weapon, using the Super Soldier Serum to create a new Red Skull. Filled with resentment towards his father, he became a dangerous, superpowered assassin, even killing President Kennedy. He eventually died in a fight with the Ultimate Avengers.
Nomad/Ian Rogers (Captain America #1, 2013)

Ian Zola had a complicated family history. He was the son of the villain Arnim Zola, but was later raised by Steve Rogers after being rescued from an experiment while they were both stuck in Dimension Z, a place where time moved quickly. Sharon Carter also helped raise him, adding to his unusual upbringing. When he was young, his sister Jet Black kidnapped him and returned him to Arnim Zola, who brainwashed him. Steve Rogers was able to reverse the brainwashing, and Ian eventually grew up to become a hero himself, taking on the identity of Nomad – a name previously used by Captain America.
Ellie Rogers (Hail Hydra #2, 2015)

In an alternate universe known as Earth-85826, Steve Rogers and Sharon Carter had a daughter named Ellie. She was raised in a world where HYDRA secretly controlled and even founded America. This reality became part of Battleworld during the 2015 Secret Wars storyline. There, Ellie became a leader in a rebellion against a team of evil Avengers, fighting alongside her brother, Ian. During a fight with HYDRA, she bonded with a Venom symbiote. However, instead of being consumed by it, Ellie’s strong will – a trait inherited from her parents – allowed her to harness its power, giving her enhanced strength and agility. She became a hero, ultimately sacrificing herself in the fight against HYDRA.
Sharon Rogers (Marvel Future Fight, 2016)

Surprisingly, in the vast Multiverse, Sharon Rogers is the only officially recognized child of Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter. What’s unique is that she wasn’t created in the comics – she first appeared in the video game Marvel Future Fight. This Sharon comes from a timeline where Steve Rogers didn’t freeze in ice after World War II. Instead, he married Peggy and they had a daughter named Sharon, who eventually became a superhero. Tony Stark provided her with the weapons she uses, and her helmet gives her a look reminiscent of both Captain America and the Scarlet Witch. She’s now also featured in the comics and the game Marvel Rivals.

It’s possible one of the new characters will be the biological child of Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter. However, it seems more probable that the character is a combination of traits from multiple people. We’ll find out for sure when Avengers: Doomsday comes out in 2026.
