In the final moments of episode three of “Daredevil: Born Again“, it’s highly unlikely that the character Hector Ayala (previously known as Kamar de los Reyes) will appear this season, even though Matt Murdock cleared his name in court. A corrupt officer is believed to have murdered the street-justice enforcer known as White Tiger not long after his release from prison. However, just because Hector is gone doesn’t mean we won’t encounter the White Tiger again in this season. In Marvel Comics, Hector was the original White Tiger, but there have been others who have taken up that mantle. We suspect that future episodes of “Daredevil: Born Again” may introduce some of these other White Tigers. Here’s a list of potential candidates based on Marvel Comics lore.
White Tiger II (Heroes for Hire)
The character known as the second White Tiger isn’t connected to Hector Ayala or his mystical amulets. Instead, she was originally a Bengal white tiger that underwent transformation into a humanoid by the villain, the High Evolutionary, from Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3. This character debuted as part of the Heroes for Hire in 1997 alongside Matt Murdock’s Defenders companion Iron Fist. She had a brief run before reverting back to her tiger form and returning to the jungle. Given her lack of connection to Ayala, her extreme sci-fi origin, and the difference in tone compared to Daredevil: Born Again, it’s unlikely that she’ll be taking over the mantle after Hector. In fact, her chances of becoming the next White Tiger are quite slim.
White Tiger III (Kevin “Kasper” Cole)
In Marvel Comics, the character who took on the role of the second White Tiger was Kevin “Kasper” Cole. Unlike previous versions or their amulets, this version had no connection to Hector Ayala. Instead, he resided in New York City and served as an officer with the NYPD. After being unfairly terminated, he donned a Black Panther costume and assumed the identity. This happened during a time when T’Challa was absent. When T’Challa returned, Cole underwent a ceremony in Wakanda involving an artificial version of the Heart-Shaped Herb. He then became an apprentice of Black Panther, known as White Tiger. Although it’s possible this character may appear in the MCU, we believe they’ll link him to a Black Panther sequel rather than forcing him into a Daredevil series. However, given his background as a New York cop, there’s a slightly higher chance he might be featured in Born Again.
White Tiger IV (Angel del Toro)
The character Angela del Toro, introduced in Marvel Comics as the fourth White Tiger, is strongly suspected to be the second MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) White Tiger. She’s a federal agent who transforms into a superhero and was first seen in Daredevil #58 from 2004. Writer Brian Michael Bendis created her, and she even had her own series in 2006. There’s an Angela del Toro in the MCU as a private investigator, mentioned by Jessica Jones on her Netflix show. However, this could be a completely different person. Since the fourth White Tiger is connected to Hector Ayala, and Brian Michael Bendis is a producer for Born Again, it seems likely that Hector’s niece will appear in the future, taking over from her uncle, avenging his death, and potentially becoming the new White Tiger in the MCU.
White Tiger V (Ava Ayala)
In the world of comics, the fifth character to take on the mantle of White Tiger is Ava Ayala, who is Hector Ayala’s younger sister. After Angela relinquishes the White Tiger role, Ava inherits the mystical amulets and carries on her brother’s legacy. She made her debut in 2011’s “Avengers Academy” and has also appeared in titles such as “Mighty Avengers.” In animated adaptations like the “Ultimate Spider-Man” series, Ava was reimagined as Hector’s daughter rather than his sister. At this point, neither Daredevil: Born Again nor any official statement confirms whether Hector has a sister or a daughter. However, a photo of a young girl in Hector’s room in episode 2 of the series hints that she might exist. It is speculated that Ava could be the second-most likely candidate to become White Tiger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), with Angela being the frontrunner at this time.
Indeed, there’s a possibility that Hector may not have a successor as the new White Tiger. However, we’re skeptical about this scenario. It could be that the next White Tiger is someone entirely different from the comics character! We’ll discover the truth in upcoming episodes of Daredevil: Born Again.
