Actress Michelle Monaghan, known for her role as Jaclyn Lemon in HBO’s The White Lotus, has refuted a popular fan speculation revolving around the enigmatic shootings hinted at during the debut of the third and ongoing season of the series.
The actress playfully clarified that the noisy incident involving the resort’s monkeys wasn’t responsible for the physical fight. Instead, she noted that spectators had become overly preoccupied with this idea, and as it turns out, there was indeed truth to this assumption.
On Jimmy Kimmel Live, Monaghan made clear, “Let me dispel a rumor: Monkeys were not involved! It seems people have been acting rather ‘bananas’ with this theory.
After the initial episode, there was much speculation. This was mainly due to Nicholas Duvernay’s character, Zion, hiding in a koi pond while gunfire echoed and monkeys roamed around the resort. The episode ended on a somber note as Zion discovered a body floating in the water.
Despite Monaghan dismissing the monkey hypothesis with her comments, she remained silent when asked if her persona might be linked to the violence. Instead, she hinted that spectators would need to observe to uncover the facts.
“Well, I don’t know. You’ll have to watch. Maybe I go a little bananas. Maybe,” Monaghan said.
Previously, Monaghan hinted at Decider regarding the evolution of her character. She suggested, “At first, she appears quite powerful, no doubt about it due to her Hollywood status. She seems content and almost perfect. But as the story progresses, we subtly uncover that she’s feeling quite lonely and a tad melancholic.
Monaghan delved deeper into her character’s female friendships, discussing the challenges they face. She also hinted that there might be some self-destructive tendencies involved, and suggested that her character is seeking fulfillment and validation in less productive or misguided ways.
In simpler terms, each week on Sundays, you can catch the latest episodes of The White Lotus Season 3 on HBO, filled with unexpected turns, tension, a mix of humor and seriousness, and all of this is also streamable on Max.
