In a new development, the White Collar reboot has encountered another setback on its journey! The long-awaited series, which Jeff Eastin has tirelessly worked to bring back from USA Network, is now ready for potential buyers in the open market. As reported by Deadline, Eastin will be presenting the show to potential buyers within the next couple of weeks.
20th Television, a subsidiary of Disney TV Studios, produces the series. Originally, it was intended for Hulu (Disney’s partner) to acquire the streaming rights for the reboot since they house archives of the original show. However, Disney decided against this plan, and the reason behind their decision remains unclear.
In an exciting turn of events, I’m thrilled to share that the revival we’ve been waiting for is about to step into the public arena. Given Netflix’s current ownership of the original series across the U.S., the U.K., and Canada, it seems like a strategic move for them to acquire the streaming rights. Keep your eyes peeled for more developments!
In terms of the upcoming series reboot, it’s anticipated that Matt Bomer, Tim DeKay, and Tiffani Thiessen will return to their memorable characters. While no official confirmation has been made, reports suggest these actors are likely to join the project if the reboot gets off the ground.
The idea for reviving the drama series was initially ignited when the cast held a virtual reunion during the early months of the Covid-19 pandemic. In June 2024, Eastin announced on X (previously known as Twitter) that the project is in progress at 20th TV. He accompanied the post with the comment, “It’s taking shape.
The article additionally featured a snapshot of the initial script’s front page, disclosing the title for the revival as White Collar Renaissance, along with the pilot episode being named Masquerade. In an interview with Variety, Thiessen stated that the reboot’s script was carefully crafted with sensitivity and emotion.
Not only did the post show a picture of the first page of the new script, but it also shared the titles – White Collar Renaissance for the revival and Masquerade for the pilot episode. Thiessen told Variety that the reboot’s script was written with thoughtfulness and feeling.
