Everstone Studio, the developer of the recently launched game Where Winds Meet, has reaffirmed its commitment to avoiding pay-to-win microtransactions. This promise was highlighted by a player who spotted a message within the game and shared it on social media, as reported by GamesRadar. The original social media post has since been removed.
The game’s introduction encourages players to focus on the aspects they enjoy and skip anything they don’t. It emphasizes that rewards will be based on a player’s own decisions and preferences, not on being forced to do certain things to earn them.
The company explained that they plan to make money through cosmetic items, battle passes, and monthly subscriptions. They strongly emphasized that the game won’t be ‘pay-to-win’ – meaning success will depend on player skill and decisions, not how much money is spent. They promised they will never sell advantages or compromise the fairness of gameplay for financial gain.
For a while, players have been wondering how Where Winds Meet will make money. As a free-to-play game, it’s likely to offer optional in-game purchases. Most players are okay with buying cosmetic items or downloadable content, but they generally dislike it when games let you buy things that give you an advantage over other players with real money.
The open-world action RPG, Where Winds Meet, launched earlier this month on PC and PlayStation 5 and has quickly become a major success. The game attracted over 2 million players within its first day, earning a place among the top three best-selling games on the PlayStation Store in seven regions. The PC version is also performing well, currently ranking as the third best-selling game at the time of this report.
Before the release of Where Winds Meet, Everstone Studio shared a trailer that generated a lot of excitement for the game. The trailer showed off the beautiful, open-world environments inspired by China’s Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. It also gave players a glimpse of the many characters they can meet and the expansive city of Kaifeng.
The developer shared details about the combat systems in Where Winds Meet. Players will have many weapon options, including swords, spears, and more unique choices like the Mo blade, umbrella, fan, and rope dart.
