- Where Winds Meet, the wuxia-inspired RPG from NetEase, has drawn in two million players
- That’s ahead of its upcoming mobile release later this year
- The fast-paced action of Where Winds Meet seems to have won over even the most cynical players
I’m honestly blown away by the success of Where Winds Meet! It was a bit of a surprise to see NetEase launch it on PC and consoles before mobile, but it totally seems to have worked. The game’s already got two million players, and it hasn’t even officially come out on mobile yet! As a fan of wuxia and martial arts RPGs, I’m super excited and can’t wait to play it!
It’s surprising, but this game is a top seller on Steam despite being released for free. It’s also impressed PC gamers, earning an 83% positive rating. With pre-registration now open for iOS and Android, we can expect its popularity to continue to rise.
Where Winds Meet is a game set in China’s turbulent Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms era. You play as a skilled swordsman or swordswoman, investigating a personal mystery and seeking to reclaim a stolen jade pendant amidst a landscape of rival martial arts schools.
Secret techniques
It may seem confusing that NetEase have seemingly prioritised console and PC over mobile for Where Winds Meet. But with its lavish graphics and gameplay I wouldn’t be surprised if making it fit onto smartphone was still proving to be a struggle.
I tried Where Winds Meet on PC and was really impressed! Although my older Samsung phone probably wouldn’t run it well, if the mobile version works similarly, I’m confident it will be just as popular on iOS and Android.
There are still lots of fantastic games coming soon, so you won’t be bored! Feeling overwhelmed by all the great mobile games available? We’ve created a constantly updated list of the best games in soft launch to help you discover new favorites.
