Where Winds Meet has the most buckwild ‘mounts’ I’ve ever seen: Getting chased by jaguars, standing on a goose, or just cranking a normal run animation to turbo-speed

Massively multiplayer online games (MMOs) aren’t as popular as they used to be. Remember when everyone played World of Warcraft? It felt like the whole world was exploring Azeroth together. While WoW still has a dedicated fanbase, it’s not the cultural phenomenon it once was. And no single game has really stepped up to take its place. Instead of one dominant MMO, we now have a lot of good, but not massively popular, options.

Anyway, I think this is because none of them let you ride up to five camels simultaneously.

NetEase’s new wuxia MMO, Where Winds Meet, is incredibly popular, and while it has some interesting features like demonic geese and AI-powered characters, I want to focus on something else: the mounts. They are, quite simply, the best I’ve ever seen in a video game.

You might think this sounds like an exaggeration, a way to get you to read something silly. And while I do always want you to read what I write, you’re mistaken this time: in the game Where Winds Meet, you can actually summon a giant jaguar to chase you around as a way to get around! It’s not that you ride the jaguar—it actively pursues your character at a fast pace.

Honestly, it’s pretty amazing. The game also features incredible ‘mounts’ – you can have your character pulled around by up to five dogs on leashes, or ride a formation of five camels (and you can ride one to four, but why would you want to?). But the best might be the mount that somehow lets your character ride a wildly flapping goose with perfect balance.

But my favorite mount is the most straightforward. One in Where Winds Meet looks like a regular running animation played at an incredibly fast speed—your character sprints across the landscape like a cartoon character, reminiscent of Wile E. Coyote! (It’s actually a nod to the movie Kung-Fu Hustle, though.) It’s clear the developers brought all their fun ideas to life, and I really appreciate that.

Plus, some are simply different kinds of horses, but it’s hard to understand what purpose they’d serve.
