The quest ‘Echoes in the Shrine’ in Where Winds Meet takes you to the General’s Shrine in Qinghe to investigate a mystery hidden beneath it. This quest is part of a larger story called Jianghu Legacy, and follows ‘The Silent Assassin’ while leading into ‘Echoes of Old Battles’.

Begin your journey by finding the Wayfarer in Verdant Wilds and speaking with them. Next, travel to the General’s Shrine in Qinghe. You’ll find Zhang San repeatedly bowing, clearly exhausted and unresponsive. Wait for him to collapse, then gently wake him up – a nudge or pat will do. Once he’s awake, he’ll drop a booklet that leads you to a strange area on the shrine floor.

How To Complete Echoes in the Shrine quest in Where Winds Meet

Head to the strangely shaped floor panel close to where you saw Zhang San bowing. You’ll need to use the Mighty Drop skill to break it open. You can find Mighty Drop in the mystic skills menu under the Movement section. Use it to smash through the floor. Before going too far down, quickly check behind the large statue inside the shrine – there’s an optional chest there if you’re trying to collect everything.

1. Move Through the Underground Corridor

After you get down, head down the hallway. You’ll see a Boundary Stone and a chest with fire arrows inside. You’ll need these fire arrows for most of what’s coming up, so make sure to equip them when the time comes. Look for a wall completely covered in vines. Use your fire arrows to burn them away. Get your bow ready by holding L2 and R2, then tap X to select fire arrows, and shoot!

You’ll find an oil lamp nearby. Light it using a fire arrow – this will alert the Tiger Fort Bandits who guard this area. To help with the fight, try shooting any explosive barrels you see near them. You’ll encounter more vines blocking your path, so burn those again. Whenever you can, climb to higher platforms for a better vantage point – you can shoot barrels and take out groups of enemies more easily from above.

A Hero’s Tomb sits in one of the rooms, so you can heal before pushing deeper.

2. Drop the Bridge and Use the Machine

Go to the next room and find the vine-covered bridge. Shoot the vines to bring the bridge down. Once you’ve crossed, use the machine to get an explosive barrel. Place the barrel near the cracked wall and shoot it to open the way forward.

Once the wall falls, quickly shoot the barrels in the newly opened room to take out the bandits before they can surround you. Burn the vines to the right to find a hidden chest. As you go down the stairs, be sure to check the body – you’ll learn a new skill called Cloud Steps, which will help you jump, cross gaps, and fight.

3. Defeat Zhang Lang

Go upstairs and defeat the remaining bandits. Then, you’ll face the boss, Zhang Lang, in the next room. He’s not too difficult – you can deal a lot of damage to him by shooting the explosive barrels around him. Once you’ve beaten him, read the tablet next to the statue. After that, kneel and bow three times in front of the statue. It will move, revealing a hidden chest with an important book inside.

Keep following the path until you see some rubble – you’ll find a chest hidden behind it. There’s another chest close to the ladder. Climb the ladder, and when you’re back on the upper level, walk over to the general’s statue and bow. That will complete the quest.
