As a lifestyle expert with a penchant for all things entertainment, I must say that the digital release of Despicable Me 4 has certainly piqued my interest. Having grown up watching animated films and observing their evolution over the years, it’s fascinating to see how technology has made it possible for us to enjoy these cinematic gems from the comfort of our homes, just a month after their theatrical debut.
U.S. residents can now stream Despicable Me 4 at home, as it’s just been made available for digital purchase or rental, a month after its cinema debut. It’s up for grabs for $29.99 in purchase or $24.99 for renting through Prime Video. Unfortunately, the UK’s digital release date is yet to be announced.
In Despicable Me 4, the story unfolds as Gru, portrayed by Steve Carell, has left behind his wicked past. A rival from their school days, Maxime Le Mal, played by Will Ferrell, is now on a mission to track him down. As a result, Gru and his family are forced into hiding at a secure location to evade Maxime’s relentless pursuit.
Initially, the movie garnered a mediocre Rotten Tomatoes score of 55%, which was somewhat similar to the first Minions film but fell slightly short of Despicable Me 3’s 58%. Since then, the rating has been revised to 56%. It wasn’t until the release of Minions: The Rise of Gru in 2022 that Carell realized the true extent of the Minions’ fanbase, as he hadn’t fully grasped their popularity beforehand.
In the initial Despicable Me movie, Steve Carell, the voice behind the main character, spoke about the film’s remarkable blend of critical acclaim and commercial success. He was profoundly impressed by the dedication and skill demonstrated by the writers and animators. They breathed life into a unique and extraordinary universe that stood out as something entirely novel to him.
In an unusual twist for an animated movie, Carell pointed out that the film’s mood was more rugged and somber. Despite this, children seemed to enjoy it tremendously, particularly the Minions. Carell believed the inclusion of the Minions was a clever move.
Carell admitted that he initially found it hard to grasp the charm of the Minions when they were first introduced. But after seeing the movie, he realized why they had become so beloved. He characterized the film as having a heartwarming and humorous vibe that resonated with everyone. According to him, this unique blend of elements was likely the key to the movie’s popularity, although predicting such success can be tricky.
Over here in the States, I’ve got my hands on Despicable Me 4! It’s up for grabs on iTunes, Amazon, and even the Microsoft Store if you’re keen. But here’s the catch – us UK fans don’t have a release date yet for digital streaming. We’re just waiting patiently for more updates about when we can finally enjoy this movie online from the comfort of our homes. Fingers crossed it won’t be too long!
