How to get the Blackwing Armor in Avowed

In the early stages of the game’s plot, one of Avowed’s principal missions will lead you on a hunt to identify your character’s alleged murderer. Once completed, you can settle scores with Ygwulf through combat. Overcoming him will result in obtaining the Blackwing Armor and wrapping up the questline. The path to this climax may prove challenging due to the lengthy investigation involved.

In the narrative flow, this event unfolds during “An Untimely End,” a primary mission that initiates upon your first steps within Paradis and wraps up moments before transitioning to another region. Prepare yourself, as the journey will guide you through numerous spots across Paradis.

An Untimely End guide

Your adventure, titled “An Untimely Beginning,” commences as soon as you enter the city of Paradis via its grand gates. Upon entry, your character encounters a lethal strike and appears to perish. A dialogue with an unidentified deity ensues in your mind, followed by a revival. You find yourself recuperating on Healer Liviana‘s bed within a clinic situated in the Underbelly district of the city.

1) Find Marius

After getting oriented, express gratitude towards Liviana for looking after you, and subsequently navigate towards the Aedyran Embassy. It’s here that you’ll encounter the Ambassador you rescued during your last mission.

The diplomat Falscen Hylgard will warmly welcome you and express his joy that you’ve made it through. After some back-and-forth dialogue, you’ll be directed to locate Marius, who will become your constant companion in your adventures. You can also seek him out in the Underbelly district, so make your way there and head directly towards the Grinning Balarok, who’s currently involved in a skirmish.

Feel free to decide how to resolve the conflict, and following a brief chat, Marius will be part of your group. From then on, he’ll assist you in investigating the circumstances surrounding your character’s demise.

2) Investigate your death

Return to the crime scene at the main gate of Paradis with Marius in your group. To solve this case, you’ll need to use Marius’ exceptional Hunter Sense, so select and activate it from your Action Bar. With his skill, scan the area carefully. You might notice a few bloodstains on the ground that can be examined. After discussing the findings with Marius, Kai, they surmise that the assailant likely fired from an elevated position.

To get to the crucial location with the appropriate angle, head towards the peak of the Aedyran Embassy. Traverse the scaffolding and circumnavigate the building, scaling the rising ledges until you arrive at the summit. Upon your arrival here, you’ll discover a reasonable amount of incriminating items such as tainted arrows, a flask of poison, and a bag containing an exceptional item—the Blackwing Gloves.

Following this, your quest leads you to discover the identity of the gloves’ owner, who bears the Blackwing Armor. Visit the Apothecary for discussion about the poison, which is likely to trigger a skirmish against the Sparrowhawks. Once the battle concludes, converse with the Apothecary, who will guide you towards Claviger’s Estate in search of vital information. Explore the estate thoroughly to uncover clues and the Cistern Key. Lastly, journey to the Temple of Ondra using the key as your compass.

3) Confronting Ygwulf

Upon arriving, engage with priestess Elowe for the answers you need. At first, she may act unaware, but persist and you’ll manage to draw information from her. You could attempt to persuade, bribe or empathize with her to reveal more secrets. If none of these methods work, show Elowe the evidence you discovered in the estate, which will lead her to a hidden Cistern beneath the Temple. If you haven’t obtained the key yet, she can provide it for you right here.

Navigate a labyrinth of underground passages, encountering numerous spiders and insurgents along the way. At the conclusion of this twisting journey, you’ll likely encounter your assassin, Ygwulf. You might be able to persuade him and his rebels to vacate Paradis amicably, thereby earning money, experience, and an Adra. However, if you aspire to obtain the Blackwing Armor, combat with him is necessary.

Opting to engage Ygwulf will prompt the entire rebellious stronghold to join forces against you in a fierce showdown. This battle with the boss can be challenging if you’re not adequately prepared, so concentrate your efforts solely on defeating Ygwulf first. Once the area has been cleared, examine his remains to obtain the Blackwing Armor and wrap up this quest.
