‘When We Were On Camera…’: Keegan-Michael Key Reveals He & Jordan Peele ‘Don’t See Each Other’ Any Longer

As a dedicated follower of the dynamic duo Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia when hearing about their reduced interactions these days. Having witnessed their meteoric rise from MADtv writers to comedy legends, it is bittersweet to see them growing apart professionally while maintaining an unbreakable bond in my heart.

Keegan-Michael Key has recently shared some insights about how his relationship with Jordan Peele has evolved, confessing that they don’t get together as frequently as they once did in their early days. Looking back, meeting Peele was an exhilarating encounter that marked the beginning of a fruitful collaboration.

Prior to their rise as the acclaimed duo Key & Peele, these two initially crossed paths on the comedic television series MADtv in 2004. Here, they forged a robust partnership both as writers and performers. Reflecting on those times with People, Key looked back fondly, stating, “For a while, we lived together and spent our time writing and discussing comedy.

In simpler terms, during an interview, the actor who played the lead in Get Out commented about his relationship with director Jordan Peele, saying that when they were working together, it was like magic. Later, he expressed regret that they don’t get to work together anymore, referring to this as a sad situation.

For a while, Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele lived together in Los Angeles when they were working at MADtv. Together, they developed several sketches, offering constructive feedback on each other’s work. Their time spent training at Chicago’s Second City Theater helped cultivate a seamless dynamic that eventually translated into their on-screen camaraderie. Key noted to the press that they developed a shared creative dialect, which produced the most successful outcomes.

Key made it clear that in mapping their careers, they simultaneously pursued their personal goals. While Peele delved into horror to some extent, Key felt a pull towards more serious roles. Post their successful stint with Key & Peele, both sought new challenges separately, marking the start of their individual projects on various platforms, but not the end of their collaboration altogether.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d put it this way: Although I’ve described my ongoing relationship with Peele as a tragedy, there have been instances where we’ve joined forces again. For example, in 2016, we collaborated on the action-comedy film “Keanu”, and more recently, we worked together on “Toy Story 4”, “Wendell & Wild”, and our first project. However, life has a way of diverting our focus elsewhere at times.

The upcoming movie project featuring Keegan-Michael Key is now showing in cinemas. In this animated prequel titled Transformers: One, he voiced the character B-127, better known as Bumblebee. Alongside him, Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, and Scarlett Johansson also contributed their voices to the film.
