American actress and businesswoman Priscilla Presley, best known as the former wife of music icon Elvis Presley, opened up about her late daughter Lisa Marie Presley’s nearly two-year marriage to Michael Jackson in an interview with Piers Morgan on the UK’s Talk TV last year in 2023.
Priscilla Presley expressed deep worry about her daughter, who was the sole offspring of Elvis Presley, when she got married to the widely recognized figure, Michael Jackson.
She mentioned that he either adored Elvis or held him in high regard, which made me feel apprehensive whenever I considered his connection with Elvis’s daughter through their shared name.
Priscilla speculated that perhaps Jackson’s regard for Elvis played a role in his choice to wed Lisa Marie, who tragically passed away at 54 years old in January 2023.
From my perspective, I, Priscilla, expressed my concerns regarding the state of our marriage as well. Reflecting on our past, I must admit that I seldom noticed your presence around me, Jackson. You seemed to be perpetually absent; a fact I couldn’t help but observe and mention.
According to Priscilla Presley, Lisa Marie would often inform her that Jackson would be gone for approximately three to four days before contacting her. Moreover, the actress admitted that she couldn’t reliably guess whether her doubts about the reason behind their marriage were accurate, as reported by Daily Mail.
As reported by Priscilla, Marie and Jackson got married in 1994, a period when Michael Jackson was being accused of child sexual abuse.
Initially, this pair tied the knot secretly in the Dominican Republic back in 1995, only to reveal their union three months later. Regrettably, they ended up parting ways in early 1996 through divorce.
In an interview with Marie Claire in 2007, Lisa Marie Presley expressed that choosing to leave her first husband, Danny Keough, for Michael Jackson in 1994 was likely the greatest regret of her life. She did not mention either man by name during the interview.
After Jackson’s passing in 2009, Marie confided in Oprah Winfrey that while she genuinely felt affection for the deceased megastar, she was mindful of his ability to skillfully control the media.
In the past, she didn’t grasp why Jackson behaved as he did (assuming it meant he didn’t love her), but over time she came to understand that his behavior was actually a tactic for survival through manipulation.
In January 2023, Lisa Marie unfortunately lost her life due to issues arising from a weight loss surgery she had performed several years prior, which ultimately led to complications.
