As a devoted fan of Millie Bobby Brown, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions upon hearing about her decision to part ways with Stranger Things. On one hand, it’s bittersweet to see Eleven bid adieu, knowing that the character has been an integral part of my entertainment journey since its inception in 2016. Yet on the other, I can’t help but cheer for Millie as she embarks on new creative ventures.
On October 16, 2023, British actress Millie Bobby Brown shared her thoughts about parting ways with Netflix’s hit series Stranger Things during an interview with Glamour Magazine UK. At only 20 years old, Millie has left a lasting impression on the entertainment world, primarily through her memorable character, Eleven.
During the interview, she expressed her intention to leave the series, detailing how it had hindered her from exploring other creative ventures.
Millie Bobby Brown expressed that working on “Stranger Things” requires a significant amount of time, leaving less room for her to pursue stories she’s deeply invested in. In essence, she’s signaling a heartfelt gratitude for the experiences gained and a readiness to move on, saying something like, “I appreciate what we’ve shared, and I’m prepared to bid farewell.” Her statement shows a thoughtful contemplation of her career path and the future projects that excite her.
Ever since its premiere in 2016, Stranger Things has amassed a huge fanbase, focusing on the tale of the troubled town of Hawkins that’s beset by extraordinary occurrences tied to another realm called the Upside Down.
The blend of nostalgia, terror, and camaraderie in the series has mesmerized viewers globally. Yet, for Millie, this very same mix poses an obstacle to her artistic exploration.
The makers behind Stranger Things, known as The Duffer Brothers, declared in February 2022 that the series would come back for a fifth and concluding season. Originally, filming was planned for May 2023; however, due to a Writers Guild of America strike, the production schedule had to be adjusted.
The SAG-AFTRA strike also raised concerns about further delays in filming. As a result, the final season is now expected to be released sometime in 2025.
Millie described the process of working on Stranger Things as similar to her high school days. She said it felt like saying, “Alright, let’s go. It’s time for our final year as seniors. Time to move on and leave this place behind.
Although she yearns to advance, Millie acknowledged her appreciation for the opportunities Stranger Things afforded her. She pointed out that the series equipped her with “the skills and the means to become a more proficient actress.
Millie earned multiple honors for playing Eleven, such as being nominated twice for an Emmy in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, as well as receiving several trophies at the 2017 MTV Movie and TV Awards.
As Millie takes her leave from Eleven, her enthusiasm lies not in their farewell, but rather in the exciting projects that await her. Specifically, she’s looking forward to starring in “The Electric State,” an action-packed post-apocalyptic film set for direction by the Russo Brothers. This film will also feature Chris Pratt as a co-star.
During the interview, Millie commended Pratt for being an outstanding collaborator, highlighting his ability to understand her, provide support, and create space for her to excel in her character.
