When Margot Robbie Said She Wanted Harley Quinn And Poison Ivy Romance In DCEU

As a die-hard DC fan with a soft spot for the dynamic duo of Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and hope in my heart when I hear Margot Robbie‘s passionate advocacy for their romantic relationship. Her unwavering dedication to this cause over the years is truly commendable, and it’s clear that she cares deeply about staying true to the source material while pushing boundaries in representation.

In a recent interview, Margot Robbie, famously known for her portrayal of Harley Quinn, expressed a desire for a fresh take on the character. She suggests exploring a romantic connection between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, who is openly queer. For quite some time, she has been advocating for this representation of a gay romance within the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). During her press tour for Babylon, she shared, “I’ve been pushing for that for years. Believe me, I really want it.”

The person was questioned about who they thought would be suitable to play Poison Ivy in the movie, and their response was intriguing. They admitted that when visualizing the character for film adaptation, they prefer imagining her as depicted in the comic books instead of picturing a particular actress. This suggests their dedication to staying true to the original material and aiming to deliver an authentic portrayal of the character on screen.

Initially, Robbie played the role of Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, and subsequently in Birds of Prey and The Suicide Squad. Now, there’s anticipation that since James Gunn has taken over DC Studios, Robbie’s interpretation of Harley may return. Gunn has openly expressed his fondness for this character and Robbie’s portrayal specifically.

Despite initial plans, Robbie won’t reprise his role as Harley in future Joker movies featuring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, with the sequel, “Joker: Folie A Deux,” scheduled for release on October 4th, 2024. For now, it seems that Robbie’s ideas about Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy within the DCEU will only exist as a dream, leaving fans hoping that their shared dreams might one day become reality instead of remaining a work of fiction.
