As a dedicated follower and fan of Liam Payne since his days with One Direction, I can confidently say that his encounter with WWE Hall of Famer, Kurt Angle, was one of my favorite moments from his life outside music. The memory of him transforming into Lucadore, facing off against the wrestling legend, and emerging victorious is etched in my mind forever.
The news of Liam Payne’s passing left the world in shock. As people grieved worldwide, conversations sprang up online about the memorable deeds he had accomplished, among them being his encounter with WWE Hall of Famer, Kurt Angle.
2013 saw a dynamic online event hosted by the band One Direction as they showcased their third album, “Midnight Memories”. The presentation included live music, games, interviews, and various other engaging activities, according to Sportskeeda.
During that period, Payne assumed the identity of Lucadore (also known as Liam ‘The Payne Train’) and squared off against WWE’s Kurt Angle.
Prior to the game, during a pre-match interview, the host casually revealed that the performer was actually a fan of Kurt. This came as a surprise to the athlete, who had earlier commented on Payne’s outfit without realizing this fact.
Payne made it clear to him that he’d had enough of his “trash talk” and announced his readiness to wrestle with Kurt. Additionally, he shared that he’s long dreamed of becoming a professional wrestler. However, Zayn Malik, a former band member, stated he was unaware of this ambition and jokingly mentioned that Payne had previously planned to wear the costume during a dress-up event.
In a heated showdown, Kurt (the Strip That Down singer) squared off against another individual, ultimately seeing Payne emerge victorious over the WWE star. Louis Tomlinson, unsurprisingly, praised his bandmate’s triumph, attributing it to his self-assured and powerful demeanor. Malik, on the other hand, admitted that he hadn’t seen him perform quite as impressively as he did in the past.
Despite his defeat, Kurt spoke kindly about the musician. As reported by the publication, during an interview with On Demand Entertainment in 2015, the WWE star shared that he had the opportunity to meet Harry Styles, a celebrity whom his daughter admired greatly.
Apart from voicing his delight about spending time with the members of One Direction, he also mentioned that it was an entertaining experience for him. He explained, “It was exciting since I wasn’t aware these youngsters were avid wrestling fans; I had no idea they admired Kurt Angle during their childhood. It turned out to be a mutually beneficial encounter. We both relished our time together, and it was enjoyable to wrestle Liam. Additionally, helping him succeed in the ring made the experience even more enjoyable.
