As an ardent fan of Kristen Stewart, I find myself utterly captivated by her unwavering spirit and unapologetic nature. Her journey from the Twilight Saga to the limelight as a fearless advocate for truth and authenticity has been nothing short of inspiring.
In February 2017, Kristen Stewart grabbed attention after she openly responded to tweets from former President Donald Trump about her. During her stint as host on Saturday Night Live (SNL), the actress spoke up about these comments, explaining that she chose to publicly declare her stance in a brave and impulsive way.
The dispute began after Trump posted tweets in 2012 regarding Kristen Stewart’s split from Robert Pattinson. In his tweets, Trump criticized Stewart for the rumors of infidelity with director Rupert Sanders and suggested that Pattinson should not rekindle their relationship. Later, in February 2017, Stewart responded to these comments during her monologue on Saturday Night Live.
In her opening remarks, Stewart said, “Donald, if you didn’t like me then, you’re probably really not going to like me now. Because I’m hosting SNL and I’m, like, so gay, dude.”
Her choice to announce her sexuality live on national TV was characterized as a spontaneous, impulsive act. Stewart clarified that during a conversation with Saturday Night Live writers, the topic of Trump’s past tweets came up, which led her to express her personal identity.
Stewart found Trump’s comments unremarkable, labeling them as small-minded and meddlesome. She further commented, “Naturally, he felt compelled to comment on my public shaming incident. It’s like saying, ‘What is this inexperienced individual, who knows nothing about life, interfering with this seasoned person?’
She added a personal touch, saying, “He’s such a little baby” and “F*** you, b****!” She was frustrated with the former President’s focus on her personal life.
2012 saw a controversy surrounding a series of tweets, which stemmed from Stewart being caught kissing Rupert Sanders, despite still being in a relationship with Pattinson at the time. This incident led to public apologies from Stewart. Trump’s tweets were part of a wider criticism she faced during this period. These remarks by the former President were generally viewed as an unwarranted invasion into her private life.
During her conversation with Rolling Stone, Stewart expressed her growing discomfort over the persistent attention to her previous relationship with Pattinson. She stated that discussing it any further between them felt quite strange and unusual.
Stewart explained that it’s as if someone persistently asked her for decades, “But wasn’t high school senior year important to you?” She would respond, “Well, I can’t really say!”, expressing her frustration. Stewart disclosed that she had been open about being gay with her partner for a long time and found the ongoing inquiry intrusive.
