In her most recent film titled “Lee,” Kate Winslet‘s portrayal of a war photographer has drawn much praise. Looking back at an old interview with Deadline, it was revealed that there is a shared trait between Winslet herself and her film character.
In the movie Titanic, the actress who played the character claimed that she herself was a rule-breaker, similar to the character she portrayed, Lee, in the biopic.
During an interview with the media outlet, the actress was questioned about Lee’s rule-breaking behavior. They asked if she had ever found herself in a similar situation where defying rules significantly influenced her life.
After hearing your query, I found myself chuckling uncontrollably. It’s a mystery to me why I’m laughing, but I think it’s because I often find myself pushing boundaries and challenging the norms. (As a devoted fan, I can’t help but empathize with her spirit of rule-breaking!)
She also explained that the rules are more about societal standards rather than just disciplinary measures.
In simpler terms, the actor from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind explained, “I aim to challenge societal expectations by portraying characters authentically, without altering my appearance to fit conventional beauty standards or for the sake of mass appeal. I believe that life isn’t always a polished image.
She persisted in stating, “Generally speaking, it’s not the case for many others, and absolutely not for me. I firmly stand by this conviction, especially when it comes to storytelling, and I wholeheartedly held onto this belief while creating and directing this movie about Lee.
In terms of her performance as Lee in the film, the actress earned a nomination for a Golden Globe Award.
