Here, you gain access to top-tier weapons, armor, and skills that let you customize your hunting style with a variety of weapons. Plus, you’ll uncover more of the map and face off against the entire roster of monsters. However, when does High Rank start?
How to unlock High Rank in Monster Hunter Wilds
As you progress through the primary narrative of Monster Hunter Wilds, you’ll slowly earn a High Rank status. The beginning of Low Rank ends when you confront the story boss, Zorah Magdaros.

To defeat Zoh Shia and advance to High Rank, you must first finish the mission following your initial Low Rank assignment. This task requires capturing a Yian Kut-Ku from the Wudwud NPC in the Forest biome. It’s just the beginning of a long chain of High Rank missions. Once completed, High Rank will be officially accessible, and the game world will undergo significant changes. You’ll find higher ranked materials at Mining Outcrops and Bonepiles, as well as new Monster Materials that will render your previous Low Rank armor ineffective.
In this game, all spots on the map will remain unchanged, but the rewards at these locations will be enhanced. To avoid getting easily defeated as you advance, make sure to replace your Low Rank gear with High Rank weapons and armor promptly. Neglecting this could lead to a single hit causing damage as you progress deeper into the game.
