When Daniel Radcliffe Said He’ll Feel ‘Weird’ Seeing Any Other Actor Play Harry Potter

As a dedicated follower of the magical world of Harry Potter, I must admit that it was bittersweet to see Daniel Radcliffe express his reservations about another actor stepping into the shoes of the Boy Who Lived. Having spent over a decade immersed in the wizarding world and garnering a massive fan following, Radcliffe’s connection with Harry Potter is undeniable.

Daniel Radcliffe, famously known as the “Boy Who Lived” from Harry Potter, has consistently expressed no interest in reprising his role. Though he doesn’t wish to play the character himself, Radcliffe has confessed to having ambivalent feelings about another actor taking on the role, finding it somewhat “odd.”

In the year 2015, when the celebrated author J.K. Rowling unveiled a two-part play titled Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, I found myself reluctant to step back into the shoes of my cherished character once more. It seemed peculiar to me, imagining another actor filling that role, a sentiment I shared during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live, hosted by the esteemed Andy Cohen.

In my recent chat with Andy, the question that’s been popping up quite a bit is, “Would you consider stepping into his shoes again?” To which I replied, “Absolutely not.” However, let me clarify, it wouldn’t feel right seeing another actor take on the role that I once made so iconic.

In the past, the actor who starred as ‘The Lost City’ was too young to portray Harry in the two-part play titled “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”, which unfolded after 19 years following the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The story mainly revolved around Harry’s youngest son, Albus. The production of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” was staged in London’s West End during the summer of 2016. Later on, Radcliffe decided to stay away from another wizarding series, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, but he did commend the franchise actor for his performance.

In a recent chat with a media outlet, Daniel Radcliffe – best known for playing Harry Potter, the magical character in all eight films of the Harry Potter series from 2001 to 2011 and who gained a huge fanbase, shared his enthusiasm about the upcoming Harry Potter TV show. Nevertheless, he remains steadfast in his choice not to wield a wand once more.

Daniel expressed great delight that the movie will return as a TV show. However, the actor opted out of participating in the upcoming HBO Max adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter. Just like everyone else, he plans to watch it as a viewer. The HBO Max Harry Potter TV series is set to premiere on screens in 2026.

Following his departure from the Harry Potter franchise, Daniel Radcliffe expanded his acting repertoire into various genres such as action, musicals, and adventure films. Most recently, he starred alongside Sandra Bullock, Brad Pitt, and Channing Tatum in The Lost City, where Tatum excelled as the main antagonist. Up next for him is a role in Now You See Me 3.
