What Will Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey Be About? Here’s What We Know

In a recent announcement by Universal Pictures on X, it was revealed that the movie will be filmed at various global locations. The anticipated release date is 2026.

In the process, this upcoming movie draws inspiration from Greek myths and features the talents of Tom Holland, Matt Damon, and Anne Hathaway in leading roles.

According to the official announcement from the production studios, the renowned director Christopher Nolan’s upcoming movie, titled ‘The Odyssey’, promises to be an extraordinary action-packed epic based on mythology. This film will be captured around the globe using cutting-edge IMAX film technology for a truly immersive experience.

The movie will make Homer’s epic tale appear on IMAX theater screens for the very first time, and it is set to be released in cinemas all over on July 17, 2026.

Although various adaptations of The Odyssey have been presented on-screen numerous times, Nolan’s take on the tale will offer a unique interpretation utilizing cutting-edge technology.

In the storyline, the action takes place during an old time period, specifically when Odysseus came back home following the Trojan War. Meanwhile, amidst conflicts between ruling families, Penelope, his wife, finds herself courted by several admirers who express their fondness towards her while waiting for Odysseus’ return.

Simultaneously, Zendaya teams up with Holland, Damon, and Hathaway in this project. This marks their third collaboration, following Director’s previous films Interstellar and The Dark Knight Rises, where Zendaya also starred.

Regarding Holland, when asked about the film, he shared that he was determined not to let go of it, particularly since Nolan was directing. Speaking about the chance, he expressed, “When the offer arrived, it felt like the call I’d been waiting for all my life.

He further added,  “It was reminiscent of getting the call about Spider-Man 10 years ago. It’s an amazing thing for me. I’m super proud, and I’m really, really excited.”

Other big names joining the cast included Robert Pattinson and Lupita N’Yongo. 

The Odyssey will hit theaters on July 17, 2026.
