What Was The Beef Between Kendrick Lamar And Big Sean? Exploring Feud As Tobey Singer Defends Himself From Stealing Accusations

As a long-time follower of both Big Sean and Kendrick Lamar, I’ve witnessed their intriguing dynamic unfold over the years. The drama between them has been like a rollercoaster ride – filled with ups, downs, twists, and turns that have kept us fans on our toes!

In response to fans claiming that he was copying Baby Keem’s rhythm in the “Yes” music video, Big Sean has spoken up to clear his name. The Detroit-based rapper debuted the “Yes” music video on August 20, 2024, though the song “Better Me Than You” had already been released a month prior.

The song, however, provoked a debate on social media, with some saying Sean Don is copying Keem’s flow and others arguing that Sean is only drawing influence from his earlier work. The Tobey rapper posted after quickly seeing that both musicians were trending on X. He wrote, “Must not be familiar with my game.”

It’s been speculated that Big Sean’s past conflict with Kendrick Lamar, who is Baby Keem’s relative, could have played a role in the post he made. Their feud originated back in 2013 when they collaborated on Jay Electronica’s song Control.

Despite K. Dot’s proclamation of being the “king of New York” in a song serving as promotion for his upcoming album, Hall of Fame, it unexpectedly became one of the standout moments in hip-hop that particular year.

Initially, Big Sean expressed no issue with Kendrick Lamar getting acclaim for their collaborative track “Control.” Yet, in a 2015 interview with Complex, he admitted that the song had garnered quite a bit of negative attention.

Supporters assert that a feud exists between these two hip-hop artists, with allegations of mutual insults in Sean’s No More Interviews and Kenny’s The Heart Part 4. A track attributed to Compton’s rapper (ELEMENT.) containing jabs at Sean surfaced last year, fueling the speculation further.

In the spirit of openness, let me share an experience I had that stirred a bit of buzz. After dropping The Heart Part 4, it seemed like perhaps a jab was aimed at Big Sean, given the context. At that moment, I tried reaching out to Lamar via text, but his number appeared to be unavailable. With him being under Top Dawg Entertainment at the time, I reached out to them, and thankfully, they reassured me there were no issues brewing. My manager, Dave Free, also corroborated this information.

Sean made it clear that he, along with podcaster Joe Budden, had been portrayed as having a dispute. However, in 2023, Sean Don was surprised when Kendrick’s track emerged, but upon closer inspection, he found out that Lamar altered the lyrics in the final version and it was actually an older song (from 2018).

In simpler terms, Big Sean chose to halt further involvement in the storyline and reached out to Lamar. Sean explained that their dispute was resolved following an apology from the Compton rapper regarding his lyrics.

I took issue with the claims that I remained silent when it comes to my own opinions, asserting that I would have been actively involved if there had truly been a fire to fight.
