What to Expect from ‘Dune: Prophecy’? Star Travis Fimmel & Writer Jordan Goldberg Tease Some Major Surprises

As a long-time fan of the Dune saga, I can’t contain my excitement for the upcoming series, Dune: Prophecy. With Dennis Villeneuve at the helm and Travis Fimmel leading the cast as Desmond Hart, this prequel is shaping up to be an extraordinary addition to the Dune universe.

Dennis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic sci-fi novel Dune has been nothing short of extraordinary. The first two films have garnered widespread praise from both fans and critics, who have been captivated by the world that the Canadian director has brought to life. Although the film series is gearing up for a continuation with Dune: Messiah, it’s also exciting to know that a prequel series – Dune: Prophecy – is set to premiere soon.

The show is set to journey us back through time and delve into the root causes of the conflict depicted in the main films. It’s confirmed to be incorporated into Villeneuve’s Dune movie continuity, offering fans an exciting opportunity to uncover additional layers within the universe, revealing further insights about the series’ world.

With the highly-anticipated premiere just one day away on November 17, 2024, series star Travis Fimmel and writer Jordan Goldberg recently sat down for an exclusive interview with ScreenRant. During their chat, they shared some intriguing details about the upcoming season.

In the series, Travis Fimmel takes on the role of Desmond Hart – a captivating soldier with a mysterious background, who strives to win the Emperor’s favor despite potentially conflicting with the Sisterhood. Meanwhile, Jordan Goldberg is among the writers for this show, as they delve into intriguing topics during their interview, which we will share with you some of the most engaging highlights.

Screen Rant: Jordan, could you explain how the movie Dune: Prophecy intensifies the intrigue surrounding the long-standing conflict between the Atreides and the Harkonnens?

Jordan Goldberg: To fully grasp this concept, we should view it from the perspectives of young Valya and young Tula. This vantage point helps us understand how petty disputes or misunderstandings can escalate into massive cosmic conflicts.

One significant feature of the show was its complex narrative structure involving different timeframes, reminiscent of another popular series by Max, titled “House of the Dragon“. This is according to Goldberg’s comments.

Could you share with us the motivation behind including various timeframes for the Harkonnen sisters, and was there any influence from series such as House of the Dragon when it comes to managing multiple timelines efficiently?

As a gaming enthusiast immersed in the world of Dune, I’ve found myself captivated by the tales spun in The Sisterhood of Dune and The Schools of Dune. They delved deep into the origins of the Sisterhood, but what truly intrigued me was watching it flourish under Valya Harkonnen’s leadership. This transition into the current timeline opened up a wealth of possibilities to explore what the Sisterhood accomplished when they held power in full swing. It also provided a glimpse into the Corrino family and their rule over the Imperium, offering a fascinating perspective on how the Imperial dynasty operates.

After covering the essentials, it’s time to unveil the exciting twists that await us during the approaching season. When questioned about his character, Fimmel hinted at the revelations or tantalizing glimpses he could share with us before the debut.

Hey Travis, could you share with us any significant action scenes that you’re looking forward to, or any key relationships Desmond has with other prominent characters in the Dune universe that you can give us a sneak peek of?

Travis Fimmel hints at significant final confrontations. The ones engaged in combat are primarily the youth, known for their physical prowess. I’m often involved in heated discussions instead.

The primary focus for him is the Sisterhood, and it wouldn’t matter to him if anyone else was present. His objective, as well as his dilemma, revolves around the Sisterhood. Everyone else appears to be a mere piece in the game, at least from my character’s perspective.

Ultimately, Jordan Goldberg fielded two crucial queries. The initial query centered around the connection between the series and potential future events, as well as the approach to managing the timeline. The second question delved into the portrayal of the Bene Gesserit within the show.

In a more conversational tone,

Jordan Goldberg: If given the chance, we’ll continue spinning tales. By the time you reach episode 6, you’re in for some significant shockers. I believe that addressing the questions left at the end of the season will be intriguing enough to create a story on its own, so let’s wait and see.

Jordan, in your opinion, which parts of the Bene Gesserit’s background and characteristics are likely to astonish or captivate fans the most? Why would it be worthwhile for viewers, such as moviegoers, to watch the show to gain a more comprehensive understanding?

Jordan Goldberg finds it challenging to imagine events in Dune unfolding without the Bene Gesserit. The chance to explore their origins, understand their initial functions, and predict their role 10,000 years later presents an intriguing prospect.

Regarding your query, it’s Valya Harkonnen’s approach to characterizing voices that particularly appeals to me in the series. The narrative twist or tale involving her is quite engaging and interesting. I find it quite intriguing. Additionally, I appreciate the concept of a Harkonnen leading this segment of the Sisterhood – what implications might that have?
