As a die-hard Marvel fan who has lived through the rollercoaster of emotions that the MCU has offered over the years, I can confidently say that the upcoming Thunderbolts movie is shaping up to be an exhilarating chapter in this epic saga. The revelation that Sebastian Stan‘s Winter Soldier will play a pivotal role in uniting this dysfunctional team, much like a modern-day Nurse Ratched, has me on the edge of my seat.
Is there any talk circulating that the MCU has come to an end? The upcoming films are certain to demonstrate that excitement and energy remain strong. In a recent discussion about his Marvel Studios character, Sebastian Stan hinted at a significant role for the Winter Soldier in the highly anticipated 2025 film Thunderbolts.
In a conversation with Variety, Sebastian Stan explained that the team will come together strongly, and he emphasized that his character will strive to forge this unity, eventually creating a formidable and potentially indissoluble group.
The Captain America: Winter Soldier actor also compared his time with the team, on screen with One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.
In the interview, Stan explained it was similar to “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” – a newcomer entering a disorganized, degrading group, yet managing to bring them together.
Discussing further the film and the character of Bucky Barnes, the performer from Avengers: Infinity War mentioned that Barnes consistently develops or changes over time.
He continued by revealing that Bucky Barnes would find himself in the company of a questionable group of adversaries, which he likened to the Winter Soldier’s character. In other words, this crew was not much unlike Bucky himself.
Over the course of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Bucky Barnes has undergone significant transformation. Initially introduced in Captain America: The First Avenger as a fellow soldier alongside Steve Rogers, his character took an unexpected turn in the 2014 film Civil War, where he became more of an adversary. However, we’ve also witnessed his development into a hero worthy of joining the ranks of the Avengers, fighting alongside the superheroes we’ve come to know up until now.
Indeed, according to the Avengers: Endgame actor’s announcement, a team-up is on the horizon. But here’s an exciting piece of news for Marvel fans: The Marvel Studios President revealed in February 2023 that Bucky Barnes will be taking charge of the Thunderbolts!
According to Kevin Feige, the Thunderbolts are more akin to individuals who aren’t quite heroes yet, and Bucky serves as the team’s unofficial leader, Screen Rant reports. It’d be intriguing to watch how this diverse group coalesces, and what part Bucky might play in the upcoming film.
It’s certainly exciting to speculate whether General Thunderbolt Ross might make an appearance in the film, given that we’ve now been acquainted with the Red Hulk.
Thunderbolts is scheduled to be released on May 2, 2025.
