What Role Did Ron Hale Play In General Hospital? Find Out As Longtime Soap Actor Passes Away At 78

As a lifetime connoisseur of daytime dramas and a fervent admirer of the acting craft, I am deeply saddened by the passing of the illustrious Ron Hale. His career was nothing short of extraordinary, spanning decades and leaving an indelible mark on the world of soap operas.

78-year-old veteran soap actor Ron Hale, recognized for his roles on Ryan’s Hope and General Hospital, has sadly passed away. Throughout his career, which covered many years, he became a cherished figure in the realm of daytime TV. His powerful performances made an indelible mark, and the echoes of his legacy still resonate with fans of these legendary shows.

In my journey as a performer, I left an indelible impression on the series “Ryan’s Hope,” where I breathed life into the character of Roger Coleridge for a remarkable 14 years, from 1975 to 1989. As a doctor hailing from a wealthy family who frequently found himself at loggerheads with the Ryan family, my portrayal of Roger was nothing short of electrifying, earning me Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in 1979 and 1980. My character’s complex relationships with Delia Reid (portrayed by Ilene Kristen and Randall Edwards) and Maggie Shelby (Cali Timmins) placed me at the heart of the show’s drama.

Following his stint in Ryan’s Hope, Hale gained even more acclaim by portraying Mike Corbin, the distant father of mob boss Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), on General Hospital. He joined the cast in 1995 and played this role until 2010, also returning to his character on the spinoff series Port Charles from 1997 to 2000. Hale’s portrayal of Mike Corbin, a man struggling with addiction and seeking redemption, significantly enriched one of the show’s central family storylines. Later, Max Gail took over the role from 2018 until 2021.

Apart from his soap opera appearances, Hale also took on roles in movies such as All the President’s Men (1976), where he played Watergate burglar Frank Sturgis. He was also a regular in TV series like Matlock and MacGyver. In addition to his on-screen work, Hale had theater roles too, including performances at Trustus Theatre in Columbia, South Carolina.
