Sebastian Stan shared a lighthearted conversation he had with his fellow Marvel actor and friend, Anthony Mackie, following the announcement of the Avengers: Doomsday cast. These two have worked together before on the Disney+ show “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
At a press event unveiling Marvel’s upcoming film, Thunderbolts, Stan (age 42) disclosed that Mackie (age 46) contacted him following the announcement of the impressive cast on March 26th. In their previous on-screen collaboration, they appeared together for a short while in Captain America: Brave New World, with Stan making a touching appearance as Bucky Barnes to console Mackie’s Sam Wilson during a critical situation.
After discovering the full roster for the Last Day event, Mackie reached out to Stan with a cordial message, casually asking about his preparations and travel plans. Stan replied that he hadn’t made any additional arrangements yet, and Mackie jokingly nudged him, advising him not to dodge the question.
People reports that Stan recounted their chat as follows: “I received a message saying, ‘Hey, what’s happening, buddy?’, to which I replied something casual like, ‘Not much, how are you?’. He then asked, ‘Where will you be staying when you arrive?’, and I responded with, ‘I haven’t figured that out yet, Anthony. I don’t have a place for myself just yet.
Stan mentioned that Mackie retorted with “Don’t act like that.” The relaxed dynamic between them has consistently characterized their bond, both in real life and on the screen.
Stan appeared briefly in Mackie’s latest Captain America movie, but he mentioned that he spent the majority of last year filming Thunderbolts. Reflecting on the time, as reported by Variety, Stan playfully commented, “Filming Thunderbolts? I must say it was a more tranquil period for me since I didn’t run into Anthony Mackie much. So, I’ll put it that way. Despite missing Anthony Mackie every day, it’s not something I like to confess.
Anticipating Thunderbolts, Stan expressed positivity about the project, noting that he had a good feeling right from the start thanks to the strong camaraderie among the cast. He pointed out that unlike projects with returning casts where existing chemistry is present, Thunderbolts was unique as it introduced a fresh set of characters with their own dynamic humor, developing their chemistry anew.
On May 2, 2025, the movie “Thunderbolt” featuring Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, and more notable actors will officially premiere in cinemas.
