It was revealed on Monday that Matt Damon will play the main character, Odysseus, in an upcoming film. Universal Studios shared a captivating teaser, offering a sneak peek into what fans can anticipate from director Christopher Nolan’s next project.
In addition to him, the ensemble of The Odyssey consists of Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, among others. Other notable figures linked to this project are Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, Jon Bernthal, and more. Furthermore, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, and Mia Goth have also been confirmed as part of the impressive cast for the movie at hand.
Just prior to Christmas, Universal revealed that their upcoming film would be based on The Odyssey. This news followed a series of high-profile cast announcements, which were rolled out progressively over several months.
Discussing the film, they hinted at it being a “global, mythical action adventure filmed with groundbreaking IMAX camera technology.
Once again, Universal Pictures and Christopher Nolan will join forces for a project. Notably, these two heavyweights collaborated on the film “Oppenheimer” following Nolan’s departure from his long-term partner, Warner Bros., in 2020.
For anyone captivated, Homer’s renowned poem recounts Odysseus’ decade-long voyage back to his homeland, Ithaca, after the conclusion of the Trojan War.
Next, the narrative immerses the audience in a narrative where Odysseus encounters disturbances from gods and legendary beasts. Meanwhile, his wife and son face the challenges posed by suitors aiming to usurp his position.
The Odyssey will be released in theaters on July 17, 2026.
