As a lifelong Marvel enthusiast who has seen every movie and read countless comics, I must say that the latest revelation about Mjolnir in What If…? Season 3 has truly blown my mind!
The legendary hammer Mjolnir has played a pivotal role in some of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most unforgettable scenes. From Thor’s battles over worthiness to Captain America’s remarkable act in Avengers: Endgame, this hammer has experienced being shattered, replaced, passed on, and reclaimed throughout the series.
Despite its rich history, the third season of “What If…?” has unexpectedly unveiled fresh insights about Mjolnir’s true capabilities, challenging our previous understanding. Traditionally, the Mighty Mjolnir has been known for its straightforward abilities in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Odin imbued it with a spell that allows only the ‘worthy’ to wield it, and whoever does would receive Thor’s powers such as storm control, flight, super strength, and more.

In the third season of “What If…?”, I find myself witnessing a unique twist: Storm, no longer bound to her usual elements, now wields Mjolnir as part of Captain Carter’s Guardians of the Multiverse. Unlike the God of Thunder, Storm harnesses the enchanted hammer’s magic for her own purposes, using an incantation to summon the combined power of Asgard’s All-Fathers and All-Mothers to shatter through the barriers of the Fifth Dimension.
This feat changes what we thought about Mjolnir, suggesting it can amplify spells and serve as a magical conduit if wielded correctly. This isn’t something we’ve seen Thor do before. While Odin and Loki are skilled in magic, Thor has always been a warrior who uses magical tools, so not a sorcerer.
It’s fascinating how Storm harnesses the power of Mjolnir, given her unique ability to combine her mutant abilities with her magical lineage. This enables her to discover capabilities within the hammer that even Thor has yet to uncover.

Thor may find himself able to access hidden powers, potentially leading to intriguing developments for his character.
