As a long-time fan of The Boys, I’ve grown accustomed to the rollercoaster ride of emotions that comes with each season. But nothing could have prepared me for the mind-blowing twists and turns in the season four finale.
As you believed Homelander was defeated, he shockingly regained control in an unexpected turn of events. The end of season three presented a grim scenario with Homelander brutally decapitating a Starlight and his supporters celebrating his brutal actions. However, that paled in comparison to the season four finale’s shocking revelation. In this rollercoaster episode, Homelander is not only elected as the President of the United States but also appointed as the Secretary of Defense, making for an explosive twist in The Boys’ storyline.
It was expected that Homelander wouldn’t meet his demise during this season since he’s the primary antagonist. But we wished to see more episodes of him being downcast and miserable Homelander. In the last episode, Homelander exposed Victoria Neuman as a superhuman on live television. He believed it didn’t matter much given that President Robert Singer was supposed to perish by day’s end.
Due to the Boys’ intervention, that unfortunate incident was prevented. However, Butcher’s reckless decision to tear Victoria Neuman apart created turmoil, which ultimately benefited Homelander and Sage. A leaked video of Singer instructing the Boys to eliminate Victoria left them (excluding Butcher, who wasn’t there) accused and publicly shamed as traitors who had murdered an innocent American. Consequently, their images were plastered all over the media.
If I were a fan describing the events in a more natural and easy-to-read way in the first person:
In this new world, it’s a far cry from bright and inviting. Those aligned with Starlighters and against Homelander face imprisonment in camps. The majority of the Boys are behind bars, keeping them apart from one another. Butcher, however, remains unmoved by the Boys or anything else, his sole focus being on eliminating supers – particularly Homelander, who’s struck by grief upon discovering Soldier Boy’s lifeless body in a hidden chamber. Quite an ominous conclusion.
