What Happens to Chris Smith in the PEACEMAKER Season 2 Finale?

As a huge fan, I was completely floored by the season finale of *Peacemaker*! It ended with a massive cliffhanger for Peacemaker himself. Even though the episode was extended to a full hour, so many questions were left unanswered, not just for the wider DC Universe, but specifically for Christopher Smith – John Cena’s character. It turns out Rick Flag finally got his revenge for his son’s death in *The Suicide Squad* – he had Peacemaker kidnapped by ARGUS and then just… dumped him in another dimension, completely alone and with no way back home. Seriously, he’s stranded on this hostile alien planet with nothing but the clothes on his back! It was a shocking way to end the season, and I’m desperately hoping we find out what happens next.

The episode largely focuses on the aftermath of Peacemaker’s return from the alternate, Nazi-controlled Earth (let’s call it Earth X). He’s struggling with guilt over his alternate father Auggie’s death and the injuries his brother Keith sustained, caused by both Eagly and Harcourt. After being released from jail by his friends, Chris initially reverts to his old coping mechanisms – casual sex and drugs. However, Adebayo helps him realize he isn’t to blame for everything, challenging his belief that he’s a harbinger of death. She successfully connects with him, and he even begins a romantic relationship with Emilia Harcourt. The episode concludes with Chris joining his team to form a new organization called Checkmate.

Unfortunately, the good ending doesn’t last. On his way home, Peacemaker is ambushed by armed men who kidnap him and take him to ARGUS. There, Rick Flag Sr. finally gets his revenge for Peacemaker killing his son. He uses a special technology to send Peacemaker to a newly discovered dimension, which he intends to use as a prison for super-powered individuals, calling it Salvation. Peacemaker is left with nothing – no weapons, no food, just the clothes on his back. The planet seems peaceful, but a distant sound hints at a dangerous creature nearby. If he wants to survive, Peacemaker will need to be far more clever and resourceful than he’s been before.

It’s highly probable that Checkmate knows who took Chris. They’re aware of Rick Flag Sr.’s strong desire for revenge against Peacemaker, stemming from his son’s death. However, the show’s creator, James Gunn, has hinted that a third season of *Peacemaker* might not happen. It’s hard to believe Gunn would leave Chris Smith stranded and alone on the Salvation planet, especially without his butterfly companion, Eagly! We predict that Peacemaker’s old team will attempt a break-in at ARGUS. This could allow them to use a dimensional portal to locate Chris. Alternatively, if ARGUS begins sending metahumans to that planet, Chris might not be so isolated. Hopefully, fans won’t have to wait a long time to learn what happens next.
