What Happened to Jake T. Austin’s Character in Wizards of Waverly Place? Selena Gomez and David Henrie Explain in Reboot’s Pilot

As a devoted fan who has grown up with the magical world of Wizards of Waverly Place, I must say it feels odd to see Alex, Justin, and Jerry without Max in this reboot. It’s like a warm family gathering missing an essential member.

In a recent statement, Selena Gomez and David Henrie explained why Jake T. Austin isn’t appearing in the revival of the Disney show “Wizards of Waverly Place”. They themselves are back as characters Alex and Justin for the latest episodes airing on Disney Channel.

Besides Gomez and Henrie, it’s worth noting that Austin was also a significant player on the original series that ran from 2007 to 2012. To this day, though, he hasn’t been reprised for either the lead character or a guest appearance.

Through their dialogue in the series, the actress and Henrie revealed the destiny of their onscreen brother’s character. In one scene, Billie, portrayed by Janice LeeAnn Brown, asks Justin, “Are you the man behind all those sandwich stores? I mean, a billionaire?

Justin clarifies, “Nope, that’s Max. I’m actually a middle school vice-principal, which some might find more exciting than being a billionaire.

Alex then immediately quips, “I would never say that. Nobody says that.”

Shortly following the announcement of the show’s reboot, Henrie expressed on his social media account that he and the creators aim to reunite the original cast members for the project.

Previously, Austin had shared in an interview that he’d drifted away from many of his fellow actors over time. In a conversation with Flaunt, he disclosed, “Initially, I became deeply immersed in the characters I portrayed and felt a strong connection to them. As I grew older and was constantly in front of the camera, going through puberty and life’s milestones, I somehow lost sight of my true self.

Nevertheless, it seems that Austin and the Love On singer have maintained some form of communication. In a recent video for Vanity Fair, Gomez inquired about Austin’s lack of response to her messages, asking, “Jake, why haven’t you been answering my texts?

She also mentioned, “By the way, let me tell you something. He was quite charming back then, isn’t that right? He was popular with the ladies, and I recall it distinctly. I’m simply paying a compliment to you.

Wizards of Waverly Place is available to stream on Disney+.
