What Happened to Elijah Blue Allman? Cher’s Son Lands in Hospital After Overdose in California

On Saturday, June 14th, early morning, Elijah Blue Allman, the son of renowned musicians Cher and Gregg Allman, was taken to a hospital in Joshua Tree, California, due to an overdose, as reported by TMZ. At present, he is receiving medical attention and fortunately, it appears that he has survived.

Elijah Blue Allman, known for his long-term struggle with substance abuse since his youth, remains hospitalized, receiving top-notch care as stated by reliable sources, according to a media outlet. Reports indicate that Cher is wholeheartedly dedicated to her son’s recovery and tirelessly working to ensure he gets the necessary assistance.

Back in 2014, during an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Elijah openly discussed his battles with substance abuse. Remarkably, he admitted that he began experimenting with drugs as early as age 11.

At one point, Elijah explained he was seeking a means to flee from his past experiences, and it was then that he found himself drawn towards drugs like heroin and opiates. He admitted, “Heroin seemed to offer me a sort of salvation. Without it at that moment in my life, I’m not sure how I would have coped.

He remarked, “It’s possible for you to leap from a bridge, if you manage to survive that phase and seek assistance afterward.” Elijah confessed to encountering some near-death situations and instances where he felt incredibly close to death.

Here’s what led to Cher filing for conservatorship

In December 2023, Cher petitioned for guardianship of Elijah, asserting that his struggles with mental health and substance abuse made it difficult for him to handle his finances on his own.

According to the court papers, any money given to Elijah would be used for drugs straight away, which means he wouldn’t have any resources left for his own support, potentially endangering his life.

In simpler terms, Cher claimed that Marieangela King, Elijah’s former spouse, was a hindrance to his recovery and actively worked against her attempts to assist him. Later, Marieangela accused Cher of hiring four individuals to forcibly bring Elijah to a rehabilitation center, which Cher denied. When asked about this incident by The New York Post, Cher responded, “I didn’t do it, and even if I did, I wouldn’t admit it.

In September 2024, Cher’s conservatorship case was closed. Then, in April 2025, King filed for a divorce from her, stating that they had irreconcilable differences and that their separation took place on March 31, 2025.

A few weeks prior to the recent overdose incident, Elijah was spotted near the Chateau Marmont hotel in Los Angeles. His behavior was confused, and he had visible wounds on his body, as well as worn-out attire.

At present, Elijah is still hospitalized, with sources revealing that Cher is focusing on ensuring he continues to get necessary support and medical attention from the healthcare team.
