Seth Rogen and James Franco, two prominent figures in comedy, have a rich history of working together that dates back to 1999 when they both began their Hollywood journey on the show “Freaks and Geeks.” Over time, they formed a successful partnership, appearing together in popular comedies such as “Knocked Up” and “The Disaster Artist.” However, their friendship ended in 2018.

In 2018, an article by the Los Angeles Times revealed that five females, four being his acting students, accused Franco of sexually inappropriate conduct. The following year, two of these accusers initiated a lawsuit for sexual misconduct against him, which was settled two years later. Although he denied the accusations, Franco consented to pay $2,235,000 to settle with the women in 2021.

It seems that the accusations led to a division between Franco and his long-term friend. In an interview with The Sunday Times that same year, Rogen expressed that he had no intention of collaborating with Franco anymore. He stated, “What I can express is that I abhor abuse and harassment, and I would never conceal or overlook the actions of someone engaging in it, nor would I willingly place someone in a situation where they might encounter such behavior.

Looking back at October 2024, I found myself admitting to Variety that my bond with Seth Rogen, a friend I had shared two decades with, was never restored. “We haven’t spoken in years,” I confessed. “I hold him dear; our friendship spanned twenty fantastic years, but it seems our time together has come to an end.” I emphasized that my efforts to mend our relationship were not for want of trying. “I’ve expressed to him the immense value he’s brought into my life,” I added.

The actor shared insights with a publication at the Rome Film Festival regarding his upcoming movie, “Hey Joe,” which marks his second release since 2019. Franco discussed his break from Hollywood, explaining that the legal proceedings and pandemic caused a pause in the world, but he utilized this time to bring about beneficial adjustments in his personal life.

In the next phase of his acting career, Variety points out that Franco has at least three more projects underway. He discussed how his current schedule provides him with a chance to unwind and delve into his personal life. “I’ve been in a relationship for seven and a half years [with actress and filmmaker Izabel Pakzad]. I never had this opportunity before. I was too frightened, honestly… to cultivate any genuine intimacy with anyone,” he disclosed.

Franco’s Hey Joe premiered in Italy on October 25.
