What Do the STRANGER THINGS 5 Episode Titles Mean?

As a seasoned Dungeons & Dragons player with years of experience under my belt, I find these episode titles for Stranger Things 5 absolutely captivating and intriguing. The title “Shock Jock” immediately conjures images of high-stakes radio drama, reminiscent of the days when I would gather around the old transistor radio to hear tales of adventure unfold during my childhood in rural Appalachia.

2025 marks the arrival of Stranger Things Season 5, and we’re brimming with excitement to discover how this captivating journey concludes. The town of Hawkins finds itself in a precarious situation following the events of season four: Max lies comatose, Eddie Munson is falsely accused, the Upside Down seeps into Hawkins, and the town struggles to recover from the “earthquake.” As we approach 1987’s fall, there’s much for the series to resolve. While specific details remain a mystery, a video revealing some episode titles for Stranger Things 5 offers tantalizing hints about what may transpire based on their meanings (or lack thereof). Let’s delve into it!

Stranger Things 5 Episode 1 – “The Crawl”

Title for “Stranger Things 5” episode, “The Crawl,” may not be immediately understood. The term could symbolize one of our main characters navigating physically out of a challenging predicament, such as Max possibly crawling within the mental torment she’s experiencing in Vecna’s realm. Given the show’s D&D roots, this title might also refer to an actual ‘dungeon crawl,’ which is a scenario where players need to strategically maneuver through a labyrinth-like dungeon, fighting monsters, solving puzzles, and more. New locations could be introduced, one of them potentially serving as a dungeon-like environment where Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Will, and others must utilize their knowledge of D&D to progress successfully.

Stranger Things 5 Episode 2 – “The Vanishing of [REDACTED]”

This moment feels like coming full circle, reminding us of when Will Byers mysteriously disappeared on November 6, 1983. It’s unlikely another main character would disappear in the same manner. Instead, we suspect Holly Wheeler, Mike’s younger sister, might be the one to go missing this time. Her lack of significance earlier could be due to her young age at that point. However, she’s now about 7 or 8 years old in season five, with a new actress portraying her. Every other sibling, including Lucas’ little sister Erica, has been involved so far. It seems logical for Holly to witness something and disappear this time around. There are whispers that she might have a bigger role to play, so we’ll see how things unfold.

Stranger Things 5 Episode 3 – “The Turnbow Trap”

This one is interesting. In a behind-the-scenes teaser clip for Stranger Things 5, we caught a glimpse of a billboard that appears to be in the Upside Down. It is an artistic depiction of a family (presumably Mom, Dad, and their son) and advertises for a land development & real estate company. We don’t know anything about this family nor their role in everything that’s been happening in Hawkins and beyond but it seems they are up to no good. At this point, we don’t have details about who Linda Hamilton is playing, so perhaps she is a part of this family or works with them.

Stranger Things 5 Episode 4 – “Sorcerer”

Previously, we assigned the main “Stranger Things” characters to various Dungeons & Dragons classes, with none of them being a Sorcerer. This includes the character known as One/Vecna, who is actually a lich. In the upcoming episodes, there might be a new character introduced that takes on this role, or perhaps an old character like Kali/Eight reappears with powers similar to a sorcerer, such as her mind manipulation and invisibility abilities, which aligns with the Sorcerer’s characteristics. The final round could bring any surprises!

Stranger Things 5 Episode 5 – “Shock Jock”

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but get excited about the title of the upcoming Stranger Things 5 episode. It seems like a significant chunk of our adventure will unfold at WSQK 94.5, a radio station that we’ve caught glimpses of in numerous behind-the-scenes photos and may have heard playing faintly in the background during previous seasons. For those who might be new to the show, a shock jock is essentially a radio personality or DJ who entertains listeners with drama and sometimes edgy humor. In real life, this role is inspired by WPTF, a station based out of Raleigh, NC, which serves the Duffer Brothers’ hometown of Durham.

Stranger Things 5 Episode 6 – “Escape from Camazotz”

In the realm of speculation, Eddie Munson from “Stranger Things” might reappear in Season 5, potentially transformed into a Camazotz – a bat spirit from Mayan mythology, serving as an agent of the underworld. However, it’s equally plausible that this reference is to Camazotz, the planet from “A Wrinkle in Time,” where Meg, Charles Wallace, and Calvin go to save Meg’s father. This place may seem idyllic but hides a sinister side, controlled by IT, an antagonist with a brain-like form. In Season 5, it’s possible that the kids stumble upon a similar location, one they must escape from to preserve their freedom and avoid being trapped and losing their autonomy. This could hint at a connection between this place and the Upside Down, where deceased characters now reside in an afterlife realm (further exploration on this topic later).

Ross Duffer dropped another clue, suggesting it’s more probable with a picture of the cover from ‘A Wrinkle in Time’.

Stranger Things 5 Episode 7 – “The Bridge”

This is indeed a vague one. It could be a literal bridge or a bridge between worlds. Whatever it is, crossing from one side to the next holds an extreme amount of risk. Last season, Eleven did go into Max’s mind and see her skateboarding near a small bridge, but that may not be related to what’s going on here.

Stranger Things 5 Episode 8 – “The Rightside Up”

As a fan, I’ve been pondering over “The Rightside Up” – might it signify a place that transcends our everyday Hawkins, a world where those who are gone find solace? If the Upside Down is real, could this alternative dimension be a parallel haven for lost souls like Bob, Barb, and Eddie, offering a semblance of Hawkins but with a twist? Alternatively, it’s intriguing to consider that one of our beloved characters – perhaps Eleven or Will – might make the ultimate sacrifice, sealing off the Upside Down forever, restoring normalcy to our world once and for all.
