As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for musical influences and a rich background in popular culture, I find it fascinating to witness the connections between artists from different generations and genres. In the case of Rick Ross, his admiration for Elvis Presley is not only evident in his music but also in his personal experiences.
Rap artist Rick Ross asserts that he shares many similarities with the legendary Rock ‘n’ Roll king, Elvis Presley. In a series of Instagram posts, the rapper known for Everyday Hustle, detailed his tour around Graceland, Elvis’ expansive Memphis mansion. “I just walked through this magnificent home,” he expressed in the video. “It was truly eye-opening. Elvis was a titan, an icon.
He revealed snippets of the singer’s cherished items, such as a 1958 Convair 880 airplane – which he bought in 1975 and named after his daughter Lisa Marie – among others. Notably, Ross, who owns a Gulfstream G550, highlighted their mutual passion for aviation. “It’s evident that Elvis and I had many shared interests… His estate is Graceland, mine is Promise Land,” he remarked.
The rapper expressed heartfelt tributes and respect for the legendary musician, who sadly passed away in 1977. He stated, “I’m captivated by his talent. I admired him as a hardworking individual. He was a figure among common people.” This wasn’t the first time Ross publicly declared his affection for Presley; in 2014, he released a song called Elvis Presley Blvd., featuring Project Pat, where he sang about cruising down the famous street in Memphis. The track also paid tribute to Presley’s late wife, Priscilla.
During an interview with People, while marketing his album Too Good to Be True in partnership with Meek Mill, Ross discussed the genres of music and artists that frequently appear on his playlist. “Phil Collins, ‘In the Air Tonight.’ This is classic yacht music,” he stated. “When I refer to that sound, I know where to look for it. I know what inspires me. I know where I need it. Enduring tunes,” he explained further.
Whenever he needs inspiration, he often delves into archives dating back 30 to 40 years or more in search of the emotions he’s trying to capture. He also mentioned another artist named Gloria Estefan. In reference to her, he said, “Welcome to Miami! You feel me? That’s just that top-down, Miami vibe. Put the top down. Or better yet, forget about the top at home.
