As a seasoned observer of the magical world within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I find myself utterly captivated by the young prodigy, Billy Maximoff, and his enchanting creation – The Witches’ Road. In my humble opinion, this boy has not only demonstrated an extraordinary power reminiscent of his mother, the Scarlet Witch, but also a creativity that rivals even the great Oz himself.
The final episodes of Agatha All Along unveiled an unexpected truth concerning the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Witches’ Road. This mystical pathway of challenges and hardships was not only what it seemed but also completely different from its appearance. To comprehend this enigma about the Witches’ Road, we must embark on our journey to the Road by taking a side trip in Salem, Massachusetts, many centuries ago.
Originally, the Witches’ Path was a creation born from a collaborative effort between Agatha Harkness and her son Nicholas. However, after her son passed away, Agatha discovered that other witches believed in an actual mystical realm offering unparalleled wishes. Consequently, she transformed their shared song into a treacherous deception. It’s disclosed in Agatha All Along that Agatha utilized the allure of the Witches’ Path to manipulate naive witches. She would then seize their powers and eliminate them when they attempted to retaliate against her for belittling them, as they had unsuccessfully tried to open a portal to nowhere.
For centuries, Agatha had been performing this ritual as a means to regain her lost powers within her basement in Westview. She intentionally excluded Lilia, Jen, and Alice from contacting one another so they wouldn’t join forces on the Witches’ Road. Instead, Agatha had malicious plans: provoking them into attacking her, stealing their magical abilities, and ultimately leaving them lifeless.
In Agatha All Along, Sharon Davis took on the role of a Green Witch, not because she possessed real magical abilities but because it didn’t matter as everything was staged. It was all a fabrication, from the song, the Witches’ Road, to the need for a coven. The obsession with power, a desperate attempt by a grieving murderer to fill the void left by her son’s tragic fate, drove this false narrative. In reality, the Witches’ Road was never more than a lie on Agatha All Along.
In the thrilling world of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), it wasn’t until my character, Billy Maximoff, also known as Wiccan, brought The Witches’ Road to life. Unknowingly, I conjured this powerful path during the events of “Agatha All Along”. Just like my mother, the Scarlet Witch, I hold a remarkable power of creation within me.
In the series “WandaVision”, Wanda Maximoff created her personal utopia within Westview that resembled a sitcom setting. However, Billy took things a step further. Unconsciously, he utilized his powerful magic to shape The Witches’ Road into something captivating – reminiscent of the Yellow Brick Road from “The Wizard of Oz”, filled with intrigue, potential, and peril for the witches in “Agatha All Along”. Billy, being the creative soul, constructed each witch’s trial using elements he adored, such as scenes from movies, songs, artwork, and decorations.
In his own room again, Billy came face-to-face with the tangible proof of his mental creations – it felt like Verbal Kint embodied both Keyser Soze and the officer interrogating him in that moment.
Because a door was never supposed to be in Agatha’s basement, Agatha had always known that Teen was Wanda’s son. On WandaVision, the Scarlet Witch automatically performed her magic without conscious effort inside her Hex, as she conducted intricate spells from afar, away from her own home. Similarly, Billy utilized The Witches’ Road in a similar manner on Agatha All Along.
Instead of the inhabitants of Westview being subjected to Wanda’s rule, Billy provided an opportunity for his coven. He facilitated their desires by creating The Road. Jen Kale yearned for freedom and she achieved it, regaining her power after a century. Moreover, Billy was successful in locating his long-lost brother Tommy, who had been adrift in the ethereal plane. Just as he found a new body for himself in William Kaplan, Billy also gave a new physical form to Tommy.
In certain aspects, both Alice and Lilia found fulfillment in Agatha All Along’s Witches’ Road, but it came at the price of their lives. Sharon, who was completely unaware of the Road, unfortunately became the unwanted and unintentional sacrifice Billy made to make everything happen. What we learn is that all forms of magic, even those used unintentionally, always carry a heavy toll.
In reality, Agatha All Along’s Witches’ Road didn’t materialize until Billy brought it to life. Once he uncovered the truth, there’s a chance it could vanish just like Wanda’s Hex did permanently. Much like how the Hex inflicted immense pain, a remorseful Billy might strive to ensure no more witches ever meet their end on his creation.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, The Witches’ Path could potentially persist eternally, serving as a mystical domain for future covens to traverse. Originating from the Hex, Tommy and Billy were brought to life, persisting beyond its destruction without relying on the Scarlet Witch to maintain their existence with her magic. As the creators influence wanes, these entities exist independently of her. Similarly, The Witches’ Path may not require its creator any longer, potentially enduring within the Marvel Universe long after Agatha All Along concludes.
