Wesley Snipes Managed to Beat Hugh Jackman’s Major Record, But Plenty of Fans Agree that It Doesn’t Really Count

As a gamer who has lived through three console generations and witnessed the rise and fall of countless gaming icons, I can confidently say that the return of Wesley Snipes as Blade is nothing short of miraculous. I remember the thrill of watching the first Blade movie back in ’98, and now, here we are, 25 years later, with the same man embodying the most iconic vampire hunter in fiction.

As a hardcore gamer, let me tell you, I’m absolutely pumped about the new Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) flick that just dropped – ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’. This one’s special because it’s the first time we get to see the X-Men joining the franchise, and not only that, but our favorite antihero Deadpool is back in action!

In the movie “Deadpool & Wolverine“, Wade humorously suggests that Hugh Jackman may keep playing Wolverine until he’s ninety, since no suitable replacement has been found so far. Over the course of 24 years, starting with his debut in X-Men in 2000, Jackman is renowned for having the longest tenure as a live-action Marvel character.

That’s not entirely accurate, thanks to Deadpool & Wolverine. An astonishing cameo in the film surprised fans when Wesley Snipes returned to his iconic role as Blade, the most famous vampire hunter in fiction. Snipes now holds the record for the longest career as a live-action Marvel character, with a 25-year and 340-day span since the release of the first Blade movie in 1998.

Trinity (2004). This surpasses Alfred Molina’s previous record of 17 years, as he portrayed Doctor Octopus in Spider-Man 2 (2004) and then reprised the role in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021).

Due to the significant time lapse between appearances, some fans believe that Snipes’ role as Blade might not be considered complete, as Hugh Jackman has portrayed Wolverine more consistently over time.

It’s known that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has plans for Blade in the future, yet it remains undecided if Wesley Snipes will be involved, given Mahershala Ali’s current role as the character. Previous efforts to resurrect the character were unsuccessful until Snipes’ cameo in Deadpool and Wolverine.

It didn’t seem logical at first, but when an unexpected call came from Ryan Reynolds after 20 years, I figured I should answer. So, I did, curious about the reason for his contact. He shared his idea with me, and they agreed to it. They said “yes” and gave the go-ahead. If I was on board, so were they. And here we are.
