WELCOME TO DERRY Creators Confirm Season 2 Is in the Works

Los Angeles hosted the 53rd Annual Saturn Awards on March 8th, bringing together stars from the worlds of science fiction, fantasy, and horror – genres we at TopMob are huge fans of! The event was packed with awards, including special recognition for the 60th anniversary of Star Trek and the 40th anniversary of Aliens. IT: Welcome to Derry was a major winner, taking home the award for Best Horror Television Series. After accepting their award, co-creators Andy and Barbara Muschietti hinted that season two is in development and will be even more impressive than the first.

During the Saturn Awards press conference, Andy Muschietti announced that season two of Welcome to Derry is officially being developed. When asked about the new season, Muschietti said they’re aiming to make it even more ambitious than the first.

“It’s a definite yes,” Muschietti confirmed. “We’re thrilled people enjoyed the first season and have high hopes for the next one. We’re confident we’ll create something even better.”

Following recent confirmation from HBO and HBO Max Chairman and CEO Casey Bloys that a second season of the horror series was likely, and dependent on Andy and Barbara Muschietti finalizing their concept, HBO hasn’t officially renewed Welcome to Derry yet. Jason Fuchs will join the Muschiettis as both a producer and the showrunner.

In addition to winning Best Horror Television Series at the Saturn Awards, Welcome to Derry received nominations for James Remar and Bill Skarsgård for Best Guest Starring Role, and for Arian Cartaya and Clara Stack as Best Young Performers.

Even though a second season of the show featuring Pennywise hasn’t been officially confirmed, the overwhelmingly positive response from viewers is a strong indicator it will happen. Based on what the creators have said, the next season will likely focus on Pennywise’s activities in 1935, specifically the brutal Bradley Gang massacre. As Andy Muschietti hinted at the Saturn Awards, they’re planning to make it even more intense and terrifying than before.
