Wednesday Season 2 Update: Steve Buscemi Shares New Character Details After Reunion With Jenna Ortega And Tim Burton

Steve Buscemi has enthusiastically discussed working once more with Jenna Ortega and Tim Burton for Netflix’s Wednesday series, season 2. He’s additionally shared fresh insights into his character and the eagerly awaited follow-up.

Approximately two decades have passed since Burton and Buscemi teamed up for Big Fish; however, more recently, Buscemi collaborated with Ortega on Klara and the Sun, a project helmed by Academy Award-winning director Taika Waititi.

As I sat down for an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, I couldn’t help but share my thrilling journey working alongside the captivating new character of the principal. I found myself immersed in the role under the brilliant direction of Tim Burton. Not to mention, collaborating with the talented Ortega was a pure delight that I won’t forget anytime soon!

Actor Buscemi shared that their prior collaboration made for an effortless shift during their work together on Wednesday. He added, “I must say, I enjoyed working with Jenna. We had previously worked together in New Zealand on Klara and the Sun earlier in the year, so I was already familiar with her before collaborating with her on Wednesday. The atmosphere on set was truly enjoyable.

Enthusiastically fond of The Addams Family, he labeled the encounter as both dreamlike and exhilarating. Reuniting with Burton again was another source of excitement for Buscemi. He could only heap compliments on the director’s creative perspective, unique outlook, and dedication during filming.

Living and working there was truly delightful, and I had the pleasure of collaborating with Tim Burton once more. Our last project together was Big Fish, which was over two decades ago. I’ve always admired him, his work style, his energy, and his unique perspective on the world. As a child, I was an ardent fan of The Addams Family, so working on this was quite surreal and extremely thrilling. Overall, it was an incredibly enjoyable experience,” Buscemi expressed.

It was confirmed on Wednesday in April 2024 that Buscemi had joined the team for Season 2. Details about his character are largely kept secret, but he will portray Barry Dort, the incoming director of Nevermore Academy. He expressed enjoying his stay and filming in Dublin for several months, despite the story not taking place in Ireland. Additionally, he has been interacting with the entire Addams family cast.

Ever since it debuted on Netflix in 2022, Tim Burton’s Wednesday, featuring Jenna Ortega, has been a massive success, leading to the announcement of a second season in 2023. However, an official release date for Season 2 hasn’t been set yet, but we can expect it to air sometime in 2025. With Steve Buscemi joining the cast, the upcoming season promises to deepen its gothic ambiance and introduce fascinating new characters. If you haven’t seen it already, you can catch the first season on Netflix.
