Netflix has released a new trailer for Wednesday Season 2 and images along with the premiere dates.
This summer, the series will be back for Season 2, divided into two halves. The first half, or Part 1, is set to premiere on August 6, followed by Part 2 on September 3. Actress Jenna Ortega will once again embody Wednesday Addams, and she’s not coming without some company this time.
Watch the trailer below.
New Year, New Addams
In Season 2, we delve deeper than just the mysteries. On Wednesday’s heels, her younger brother Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez) enrolls at Nevermore Academy, while their parents Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Gomez (Luis Guzmán) become more prominent figures. This means more hassles for Wednesday, leaving less space for personal freedom.
once again taking the helm as director and co-producer, Tim Burton; with Ortega now added as a producer as well, expresses that stepping back into the role is an enjoyable yet peculiar experience – a fitting description for the unique character of Wednesday.
Ortega shared with Netflix’s Tudum that the most thrilling aspect is getting to revisit the character. Wednesday Addams, one of the most iconic characters in television history, was a dream role for her initially, and being able to put on the costume and embody the character once more brings immense joy. The character’s intelligence outshines everyone she interacts with, so portraying someone who is far smarter than herself is amusing, peculiar, and delightful.
Familiar Faces and First Looks
As a movie critic, I’m thrilled to share that the second season of this captivating series brings back beloved supporting characters like Enid (Emma Myers), Bianca (Joy Sunday), and Tyler (Hunter Doohan). Even fan favorites such as Thing and Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen) make a return. On top of that, the new season promises an exciting ensemble of fresh characters and intriguing settings to keep us hooked!
Joanna Lumley takes on the role of Hester Frump, who is Morticia’s mother and an unexpected friend to Wednesday. Meanwhile, Steve Buscemi assumes the part of Principal Barry Dort, a replacement for Weems following his departure at the end of Season 1.
Buscemi shared his enthusiasm for the Addams family, particularly the character ‘Wednesday’, stating that he was thrilled when they expressed interest in him to portray the principal of Nevermore. Barry Dort, an enigmatic individual with a peculiar air, seems somewhat off-kilter, but his deep affection for the school and his genuine sense of solidarity with outsiders is evident.
Wednesday Isn’t in Control This Time
The creators, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, suggest that Wednesday’s self-assurance might be unfounded. She goes back to Nevermore believing she understands what’s ahead, but she’s mistaken. According to Millar, “Nothing is as it appears.” Wednesday enters this season thinking she has a handle on Nevermore. It’s the first time she’s willingly returned to a school, but immediately upon her arrival, nothing transpires as expected. She believes she’ll be in charge and knows all the secrets, but she doesn’t.
Pugsley’s Powers and Wednesday’s Enemies
This season, Pugsley discovers and explores his inner strengths while figuring out where he belongs within the group of misfits. Meanwhile, the cold-hearted Tyler from last season returns, and his encounter with Wednesday is not friendly.
Tim Burton expressed, “Having your family at school is the absolute last thing I’d want, isn’t it? Wednesday embodies that sentiment even more intensely. Poor Pugsley, he’s almost an outcast among outcasts, so I empathize with him. He steps into Nevermore for the first time, giving us a glimpse of his school life. Each character possesses unique abilities, and Pugsley is still learning to harness his own.
Romance, Tension, and Tango
On Wednesdays ongoing strained bond with her mom Morticia remains central. A sneak peek even features Morticia and Gomez performing an emotional tango at school – echoing their passionate, exaggerated love that further irritates Wednesday.
When and Where to Watch
The second season of “Wednesday” will debut in two parts: Part 1 on August 6 and Part 2 on September 3, exclusively on Netflix. In case you missed it, Season 1 is still accessible for streaming.
