At their Tudum event, Netflix shared the first six minutes of the upcoming Season 2 for “Wednesday”. This gives fans a sneak preview of the series’ continuation, set to air this coming summer.
The character portrayed by Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams returns with a new, ominous, intense, and disorderly vibe right from the get-go.
Watch the first six minutes below.
Summer Vacation, Addams Style
The first episode, named “Here We Woe Again,” commences with Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) recounting her “exciting summer.” She finds herself trapped and silenced in a cellar by a murderer who loves dolls, but she remains remarkably unruffled. In truth, this was all prearranged.
In a flashback, we see Wednesday devote her break to perfecting her psychic abilities using Goody’s spell book. Once she had a handle on that, her focus shifted to following the trail of the Kansas City Scalper, a case that captivated her since her childhood. As young as six, she left her classmates startled with a presentation detailing the Scalper’s criminal activities.
A Vision Gone Wrong
When Wednesday attempts to shock me, an unexpected psychic hiccup ensues as her touch connects with me instead. For the first time, her vision overflows with tears that are as black as night, a malfunction that Miles Millar, one of our creators, reveals will be a significant element in Season 2. As her powers continue to destabilize, regaining control and navigating this arc becomes a crucial part of the season’s narrative.
The initial scene establishes a darker, more intricate narrative for this upcoming period. Instead of merely responding, Wednesday takes charge, acting with deliberate detachment. However, her grip on control seems tenuous, as events unfold at a pace she didn’t foresee, escalating more rapidly than anticipated.
New Threats and Returning Chaos
The available video clips offer tantalizing glimpses of more than just thrilling scenes. They hint at the complex dynamics among siblings and allude to power struggles within Nevermore’s school system. Furthermore, fleeting appearances of both new and familiar characters imply that the mystery remains unsolved. Barry Dort (portrayed by Steve Buscemi) makes a brief appearance but his influence seems significant. Lastly, Pugsley exhibits early signs of developing his powers, however Wednesday has yet to offer him much guidance in this area.
Previously mentioned, Season 2 brings fresh characters and enriches the Addams family relationships. Morticia and Gomez take center stage with Grandmama (played by Joanna Lumley) adding an unpredictable guidance role. Also returning are Enid, Bianca, Tyler, and Uncle Fester.
