WEDNESDAY Finally Gives Thing an Origin Story and It Is VERY Twisted

The intriguing history of the Addams Family in popular culture extends across multiple decades and generations. Their eerie and eccentric nature keeps drawing us back, as evidenced by the massive popularity of the Netflix series “Wednesday,” which has already secured a season three renewal and spinoff. Even with all we thought we knew about this peculiar family, there’s always something fresh to discover. For instance, until the second season of “Wednesday,” there was no comprehensive account of Thing’s life within the Addams Family series or films, but now, we’ve been filled in on his origin story and its connection to Morticia and Gomez’s past at Nevermore Academy.

In the final episode of season two, Morticia discloses her link to Tyler’s mother Francoise and Isaac Night, who was once Slurp and has resurrected as an evil genius. During their college days, Isaac shared a dorm room with Gomez as a close friend. Isaac conducted a series of experiments aimed at helping Francoise overcome her Hyde condition for a more ordinary life. He convinces Gomez to participate in the experiment by harnessing some of his electrical powers.

It turns out that Isaac is planning to murder Gomez to aid his sister. Morticia intervenes during an experiment causing the machine to blow up, stripping Gomez of his powers. During the commotion, Morticia cuts off Isaac’s hand and they bury him in a grave intended for Gomez. Later, Francoise becomes Stonehurst’s test subject, and Isaac’s severed hand transforms into Thing, the faithful limb of the Addams Family.

Eventually, Thing intervenes to assist Wednesday in rescuing Pugsley from Isaac’s harmful intentions. However, Isaac manages to apprehend him and reattach Thing to his body. This transformation grants Isaac the power to lift objects. He comes close to killing Wednesday, but Thing, who has its own consciousness, rebels and saves everyone in the end.

On Wednesdays and with Uncle Fester, Thing embarks on an exciting journey, willing to assist them in tracking down Enid. Despite his complete understanding of his past, he finds contentment in the role as Wednesday’s companion. His peculiar history only adds to his quirks, making him a fitting member of this dysfunctional family.
