Zack Cregger’s latest horror flick, titled “Weapons“, has made an impressive debut at the box office, outperforming initial predictions.
On a Friday update, it appears that the opening weekend’s earnings could surpass $38 million, potentially even more, exceeding initial predictions. The first day’s earnings, starting from Friday and including the Thursday preview, are estimated to be over $17 million, with the Thursday preview raking in $5.7 million.
In the opening weekend, Sinners earned $48 million, raking in $19.2 million on its first day. Final Destination: Bloodlines started off by earning $51.6 million, making $20.9 million on its initial Friday, and 28 Years Later brought in an opening of $30 million, grossing $14.4 million during its first day.
On Thursdays, the sneak peek for “Weapons” surpasses both “Sinners” ($4.7M) and “Final Destination: Bloodlines” ($5.5M), and it aligns with the earnings of “28 Years Later” ($5.8M).
Both “Sinners,” earning $365.8 million globally, and “Final Destination: Bloodlines,” with $285.3 million, were successful films at the box office. However, “28 Years Later” had a promising start, amassing $150 million initially, but it soon faltered, resulting in losses of approximately $75 million for Sony.

The movie titled “Weapons” apparently has a production budget of just $38 million. This implies that its break-even point, the amount it needs to make at the box office to cover all costs, is approximately $95 million.
In comparison, the budget for films like “Sinners” was approximately $100 million or higher, while “Final Destination: Bloodlines” had a budget of about $50 million, and “28 Years Later” came in at around $75 million.

I haven’t watched “Final Destination: Bloodlines”, but I’m a fan of “Weapons” and “Sinners”. I absolutely dislike “28 Years Later”, and “Weapons” outshines it significantly, in my opinion. To be clear, “Weapons” is far superior to Cregger’s “Barbarian”, which grossed $45M back in 2022 on a budget of just $4.5 million.
On Thursdays, previews for the movie “Weapons” outperformed Disney’s “Freaky Friday,” earning $3 million. This suggests that “Weapons” has a strong chance of claiming the top spot at the box office this weekend, while “Freaky Friday” is projected to open with a whopping $30 million.
The ratings on Rotten Tomatoes are exceptionally high – 96% for audience and 90% for critics – and it seems the buzz around the movie is intense. Just as I suggested earlier, my advice is to skip the reviews and trailers, and head straight to the cinema to catch this film!
